Scaling down our original plan to cover the USA in three months, we have split it into three trips, this one being six weeks and ticking off two major items on the bucket list, Route 66 and the Grand Canyon. However we realised there is so much more to see along the way and in Utah, and I guess you just have to experience the endless plains and Platt River on the return journey to Chicago. Of course we could have journeyed on to the west coast, but that's for another trip. We could have flown back to Chicago, but hey thats sooo boring! Overloaded on information and ideas from Roadtrippers, Pinterest, National Parks Service and my own library of travel books we intend to cram as much into those six weeks as is possible to do, for an 'old' (but young at heart) couple!!
