Have been coming here for years when the kids were small, before full-timing. This park is a top camping draw for families from The City and fills almost every Summer weekend, during the week not even a tenth filled.
This park features a big fishing and paddle sports lake, no motors over 10hp. Buy a license! DNR Police are active here.
The day-use and camping sections are separate and distinct. There is a restaurant at the day-use side and a great camp store with fishing and camping supplies as well as food and ice cream treats on the camping side.
There are boat rentals at each location.
There are 150 camp sites, FCFS and ReserveAmerica. They are all back-in, electric only, level is debatable. The park works hard to keep the woods at bay and is constantly pushing it back, but the sites are still very woodsy, many are in twilight all day. The State Park has a booster club and many supporters. See this web site, not Illinois DNR, for lots of info about the lake and park, as well as pictures of the camping sites and lots of fish pics:

This is a camping park mostly tent camping, pop-ups, and travel trailers. Motorized RV are probably truck campers and small rv's. Check the photos in the above noted web site. Large Class A's and 5th wheels would have a chore getting in. There is a fire ring and picnic table at every site and there is plenty of grass around before giving way to the woods.
There are good hiking trails, including a formidable one around the lake.
Families and children play all day and never stop exploring the woods. This is not a quiet place...it is not supposed to be.
Besides the usual outhouses there is a single shower and bathroom building which, though cleaned daily, is severely taxed when the park is full. It is rather Spartan, at best.
Four host couples, scattered about the park keep things running smoothly without spoiling the fun.

This is a plain and simple, utilitarian, just off the interstate RV Park. Which is just what they say they are. The park is very neat and trim. Gravel roads and sites, very easy full hook ups. We used our short water hose and only one length of sewer hose. The sites are level front to back, but ours leaned a little, not enough to get the boards out. The sites are long enough to leave your tow attached. No fire rings, but each site has a picnic table.
There is adequate space between the rv's. The permanent and long-term tenants are in the rear. Saw no derelict trailers or junk.
The small office has some rv supplies that might come in handy, but there is no camp store. The cable is very good with 30 stations, and wi-fi is excellent with four "hot spots" to choose from.
There are no amenities here. The attraction is location, location, location.
It is directly off I-55 and one half mile from I-57. We hear no road noise!
A single men's and women's bathroom are off the laundry room. They are very basic and appear to be cleaned daily. They can really only accommodate one user at a time, yet the outside door doesn't lock, so I guess you have to say, "I'm in here" when someone comes in. The walls are painted cement block and the floors concrete. I have shower shoes that I rarely use. I'm sure the bathrooms are clean but I'll use my shoes.
The day we arrived they were putting new mulch around their shade trees.
It looked nice and there were flowers blooming all about. This is a clean and orderly park.
Here is a comfortable night off the road. It is not a resort. It's a night's sleep before you start driving again. We liked it, we'll be back.

This park steps off the pages of a 1980 AAA Travel Guide. An old RV Park that is little worn on the edges but very comfortable and welcoming.
NOTE!! You must be self-contained, no bathrooms or showers.
The sites are close but not restrictive. There are two electrical boxes on each pedestal so the paired rv's are close, but there is a lot of space between each pair. There is a picnic table at each site.
We were able to leave our towed p/u truck attached. The sites are two strips of concrete with gravel and grass and mature trees all around.
Looking around we see lots of neighbors who live here, but, although there are the obvious signs of permanent residents, there are no derelict trailers.
Many rv units are showing some age but flower gardens, bird feeders, and lawn furniture abound. Everyone seems to have a happy banner flying.
Not a lot of amenities but the furnished wi-fi is outstanding. No cable but OTA antenna tv will get you the major broadcasters.
The owners are the nicest people. They run a very clean and neat rv park and are on-site to keep it that way.
This is a very nice little corner in Arkansas and a good overnight stop on our travels. We would come back.

We visited this park two years ago, right after the ribbon cutting, and thought then that it had a lot of potential. Now, two years later, it all looks exactly the same. Not bad, but not changed or enhanced, just the way we left it.
The roads and sites are gravel, there are lots of lawns and grass around each site. The sites are level and hook ups easy. There is a pond in the middle of the park with well maintained landscaping. It all looks very clean and neat. Not all sites sites have picnic tables and there are no fire rings. The cable and wi-fi both have strong signals and work well.
The office staff and workampers are very helpful. They offer discounts for FMCA, SKP's, and GS which is good because for a simple park, it is rather pricey.
The Main Building serves all functions as office, laundry, showers, and bathrooms. All these functions are reached upon entering this main building which is odd. The two unisex showers are very big with a complete bathroom as well. They are sparkling clean and even decorated.
Unfortunately no camp store of any kind!!
Since first seeing this park it has almost filled with permanent and long term residents. Too bad, it would be a great rest for travelers. Now maybe six sites are for overnight guests. All sites on the pond are long term residents. Some of the permanent trailers toward the rear of the park show the wear and age of just sitting, some have the outside clutter that marks a permanent resident.
Common RV Park amenities that I thought would be added never happened, e.g. dog park, kids' playground, pool, park style benches around the pond, camp store. I guess because their residents became their focus.
Be sure to call for a reservation, as this is being written there are no more overnight spots. This a clean and secure overnight stop, but not much more.

This is unlike any KOA we've been to, except everything is yellow and begins with a "K". It is off the beaten path, not near a highway. You won't see advertising signage, use your GPS, we did and it worked.
The park is unbelievably quiet no games, no jumping pillows, no hayrides, or nightly movies, and no traffic noise.
The campground is literally cut into a piney woods, the Loblolly pines have been cleared from the rv sites, they are notoriously unstable. The grounds have been replanted with shade trees. This heavy pine forest totally surrounds the park. It is deep and dark. If we hadn't heard owls at night, we would have heard nothing. There are street lights and each electrical pedestal has a welcome light atop.
The sites are very big and spacious. We never unhooked our tow.
Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The deluxe sites have a poured patio and table and chairs. There is lots of grass on all sides.
There are a lot of Kabins. There are four Log style Kabins that have been cut deep into the woods. I have never seen such a cool setting for these ubiquitous Kabins. There is also tenting in the woods.
Larger cedar sided Kabins with porches and decks are set among the rv sites. They resemble KOA styles but look a lot like Park-Models.
The office is clean and neat with lots of camping stuff for sale.
Bathrooms and showers are sparkling and cleaned daily. They are new and very well equipped. There is also an enclosed dog area. A very nice looking pool and a small equipped playground for family fun.
The managers here are very nice. Even bought us milk when they went to the store. This has been a very welcome respite after seven hours of driving. We stayed two days to just relax. KOA doesn't use the word, but this park could be a KOA Retreat.

This is an old KOA and in many respects looks it. The oil exploration industry in this area has exploded and this RV Park has expanded and then expanded again. They have added many sites for the transient oil and pipeline workers.
The original park seems to have suffered during this expansion.
Travelers are put in the old KOA so there will be some grass and trees. The roads in the parks are pot holed and narrow, the sites are close but there is a picnic table and a bit of grass. Utilities are conveniently placed. The park is clean but looks rather ragged and unkempt. Not dirty or trashy, just not daily maintained to a high standard. This has become a big park requiring a lot of work on a daily basis. I don't see it.
There are bathrooms both at the office and in a free standing building out on the grounds. The bathrooms appeared clean. The bathroom/showers on the grounds were usable but a few loose and broken items needed replacement and/or repair. They were clean enough to be comfortable.
The laundry was adequate but some equipment was out of service.
Wi-Fi was good and consistent during the day, cable was also good.
This is not a bad park, just not a good park at this time.
Oh, and yes, there is a restaurant and I'm told it is good, but this isn't necessarily a reason to stop at anything but the restaurant.

This is a really special little rv park, and it is definitely little, only 15 spaces.
The park is very homey, almost cute, with the owners living on the grounds.
It is rather like camping in someone's backyard. All the sites are back in and rather close, but there is picnic table and enough space to be comfortable. The roads and sites are gravel, but there is lots of grass in between. Sites are level and utilities well placed for convenient hookup.
The grounds are well maintained and very attractive. The park is surrounded by tall, mature trees and a white board fence. The entire facility is pleasant visually, even the out buildings are decorated and diminutive.
The office/store building also contains the laundry and the bathrooms. Like the grounds it is all neat as a pin. The bathrooms are clean and well cared for.
The owner can show you places to walk your dog.
The cable is outstanding with nearly 100 clear channels. Wi-Fi is also very good, steady and consistent. Very happy surprise. This park seems to always be full with only 15 spots to fill...be sure to call first.
The owner is really nice and very helpful. Gave us a business reference for some remedial work on our rv.
This park is not the destination; you're here for Roswell. So after you've searched for UFO's and green aliens this is a safe and comfortable place to come back to and compare discoveries.

This is a basic rv park that is very good at it. Easy off I-40 and near the exit, yet little or no road noise. There is a really big "Loves" being built at the intersection now, you'll be able to walk there when it is done.
This is a big park, meticulously maintained with desert landscaping done very professionally. The area is very clean and neat as are all the tenants. The roads are asphalt, the sites are level, hard packed gravel. The sites are wide with a picnic table. The sites seem long enough, but most big rv's have to unhook their tow. The utilities are conveniently placed and hook up is easy.
The park is well managed and quiet with managers living on site.
There is no cable as Albuquerque has over 20 digital channels OTA. Wi-Fi is here but is a chore at times. It is supplied by tengointernet which can be problematic, but once you've finally registered and logged in, you are then faced with just chronically slow internet. Just too big of a park.
Of note is the really nice office/store/recreation and meeting room all in the office building along with the laundry and men's and women's bathrooms.
This building seems new and is very attractive. There is comfy furniture for relaxing also card tables and chairs, a large screen tv, and two high end professional pool tables. The bathrooms in this building are sparkling clean and very new looking. They are, obviously, closely monitored and cleaned often. There are also bathrooms in a free standing building out on the grounds amongst the rv's. I would stick with the bathrooms in the office building. These outlying bathrooms seem a bit forgotten. I'm sure that they are adequate but look less clean and a little ragged. Some equipment needs upgrading and/or repair.
There are three fenced dog parks with room to run. Three? Yes, one in each corner of the park.
This is a safe park; you won't need a flashlight at night. The park is lit with municipal style street lighting.
This park is not the destination, no pool, no playground. This is a good safe stop over when you visit Albuquerque. It is relaxing and comfortable.

This is a unique rv park in many ways. It is in Arizona so there is lots of sand and rocks, but they are trying to keep trees going with irrigation. The park is almost always dry and windy but their maintenance crew is out every day cleaning and tidying and making it as appealing as Northern Arizona can be.
This is a big park with nearly 100 sites. The office staff manage it very well and are very nice to meet.
The sites are very long almost double most parks, but they are close. So the park has come up with an odds and evens scheme where alternating rv's enter at different ends of their sites then pull all the way forward. That puts every other rv at the same end of the row but a site between each. It is complicated till you see it.
The hook ups are easy, in fact there are multiple sewer connections, you can't miss. Each site has a picnic table. Wi-Fi is very good with a number of hot-spots, you might have to switch to another if yours slows. Cable is excellent good pictures with lots of channels. All interior roads and sites are sand and gravel; the sites are level. It would be hard to be a "pretty" park out here but everything you need to be comfortable off the road is here.
The bathrooms are old and facilities are dated but they are clean and comfortable. Much of the wear in the bathrooms and showers is probably repeated cleaning and scrubbing, and all the use over the years. We did not hesitate to use the bathrooms and showers. The laundry is big and the equipment newer looking.
What makes this park odd is that it is part of the town of Holbrook, no big deal, but it is dissected by two city streets. Named and signed, big, wide asphalt streets cut the park into three sections. So town traffic passes back and forth on these streets that is not park related and they certainly aren't trespassing. But then they also get city lighting and police patrol, certainly secure at night.
This is a good, well managed older park. The owners are very involved and practically dote on the park and their customers. Get off the road here and relax for an easy night.

This is an unique KOA, no complaints, no problems! This is really a nice park right from the beginning. We had reservations check-in was easy, staff was super nice, even had a treat for our dog and cookies for us. The office was clean and neat and actually had rv supplies that might be needed, as well as groceries and souvenirs.
This is a small park, all hard packed gravel. The sites are long and level, a little close to neighbors but not bad, still room for picnic table and chairs.
Utilities were convenient and hookup easy. Wi-Fi was good till the park filled to almost max, then slowed. Cable was very good, many clear channels.
The park is neat-as-a-pin and very clean. This part of New Mexico is High 'n Dry, grass would be a struggle, but they have landscaped beautifully with prairie grasses and shrubs and small tress that struggle along. It is obvious they water a lot.
There are the KOA usual amenities: off leash dog area, kids playground, tent area, and Kabins. There is also a very nice walking path that goes out and away from the park and back.
The bathrooms are rather small, not typical KOA, but very clean and freshly painted, showers also looked well cared for and inviting. All facilities were comfortable.
This is a thoroughly nice and well cared for park and to top it all they offer meals prepared in their kitchen and delivered to your rv. Just for a fun treat we ordered a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. It was great.
At night the park was well lit and secure. We were surprised to see the hosts still leading people in as late as 10:30pm.
We are planning to return.
