This was a wonderful find. The sites are very large, each with separate areas for parking a trailer and car, a picnic table, and a tent site. Lots of trees which provide privacy. Sites are about 75 to 100 feet apart so you aren’t really bothered by neighbors. There is an abundance of chipmunks and hummingbirds.

Ignore the reviews complaining about Verizon coverage. We had a couple of bars on our Verizon phones. Besides, isn’t the idea of camping to get off the grid and away from things?

While there are a couple of water spigots, they don’t have hose connections, so either fill your fresh water tank before arriving or be prepared to tote water.

The only negative about this campground is that it is right off the highway so you can expect a bit of road noise during the day. This is the only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars.

The price we paid included the Senior Pass discount

This was our second time to stay here. Our first visit we stayed in the Deerfield Loop which is across the highway from the park HQ (the Hillside). The site was aptly named as deer wandered through the campground each morning and evening. Most of the sites were pull throughs with full hookups. There are a couple of washers and dryers by the bath house, though they are located outside which was kind of odd. However, it was nice to have them available.

Our latest stay was on the river side in the Pecan Loop. While this was a nice site, it was too close to the highway and had a lot of noise. In addition, our particular site had the sewer and water located very far apart. I had to use an extension on my sewer hose as well as one for my 30A power. Other sites were better in this regard.

On the Hillside there are some nice hiking trails. My only complaint is they are poorly marked so it was not always clear exactly which trail we were on. The trails are easily accessible with only a few places on the trails that presented any kind of challenge - mostly due to rocks. We encountered a couple of families with small children, so it appears to be family friendly.

We have already scheduled another stay here on our way back from West Texas. This is quickly becoming one of my go-to stopover sites.

We stayed here at the suggestion of friends we were visiting in Birmingham. We had originally reserved a local RV park, but I am so glad we stayed here instead. We were in site A30 which is surrounded by trees. Though we had a somewhat close neighbor on one side, the other was all woods.

Our site was level from side to side, an only sloped down from back to front just a bit. Backing in was quite easy. The only complaint about our site is the site has a lot of poison ivy, so do be aware when walking around.

While we didn’t take advantage of everything there is to do here, there are a ton of choices - anything from archery to golf to horseback riding. Bike lanes run throughout the park, and there is a BMX track as well.

Next visit will definitely be longer than two nights. This park is a gem barely outside the city.

We were looking for something not too far from Houston and decided to try this park. We were not disappointed. There are two sides to the park, divided by the highway - Hen House Ridge and Walnut Ridge. We stayed on the Walnut Ridge side. The sites are further apart and there seems to be more shade on that side. Henhouse sites are also closer together that Walnut Ridge. The first night (Thursday) there were only a couple other campers there, and they were at opposite ends with us in the middle. We practically had the place to ourselves. Friday, however, we found ourselves with campers on both sides. BTW, it appears they took several of the inside (away from the water) sites out of service and turned them into excess vehicle parking. That also gave more privacy to our site. And is was from one of these excess vehicle sites, which back up to the forest, that a couple of deer would grace us with their presence in the mornings and evenings.

The Walnut Ridge side cost more than the Henhouse Ridge (50A vs 30A vs Tent site), which may explain why there were more people on the Henhouse side. The bathrooms were very clean. Our site was level and shaded. While we could hear some traffic noise from our site, it was not enough to be bothersome. The only complaint I have is the dumpsters are not located near the campsites. We had to drive in order to dump our trash.

First off, it really is off the beaten path. You have to take a few back roads to get there. However, it is worth it. The sites we well shaded with large, mature trees all around. The hiking trail near out site was shaded and well marked. It was only a short hike, but very pleasant.

The water here tasted great! I don't usually use water from a campsite, but after nearly three weeks on the road, the bottled water we had stocked up with ran out. I was amazed at how fresh the water tasted.

The only thing I didn't like about my site is that it appears to have originally been a tent site. It was very level, but they had built a short ramp up from the road to reach the tent sit. As a result, my tow vehicle was much lower than the trailer was. Fortunately I was able to use the leveling jacks on the front of my trailer to lift if off the hitch. Otherwise, the front of the trailer was so low I couldn't put the foot on the lift.

Our Verizon phones only got 3G at this campground. For what it's worth, we were 'roaming' for much of the time in this area of Texas, so it just comes with the territory.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and the park was buzzing with activity. Our site (55) overlooked the lake and was quite near the swimming area and the pavillions. Our site was about 150 feet from the next site over, and about 200 feet from the restrooms. The site is also near the boat ramp, so there was a lot of action due to a fishing tournament. However, once the weekenders left, it was a very quiet experience. As the sun got lower people started clearing out. Once gone, we felt like we had the entire campground to ourselves. There were a few trailers off in the distance, but we were the only ones on our side of the campgrounds.

Signage here really needs to be improved. When trying to find our site, we passed the turn and ended up at a dead end. I had to back up the trailer about 50 feet in order to make the turn. I feel sorry for the folks that book sites on the dead end as there is no room to maneuver.

As others have pointed out, parking can be a challenge. However, we have a small trailer, so it was not too bad. However, there was a large bump leading into the site that added to the difficulty of backing in.

The site itself was quite large, but other than the pad, it was quite unlevel. There was also no room for mistakes when backing up as there were drop offs to the sides.

My other complaint is the lack of trash cans. The main trash dumpsters were located at the dump station. I am not sure if I saw any others in the park.

The good news is the park is close to Rogers and Bentonville, and an easy drive to War Eagle Mill and Eureka Springs. There is a convenience store located a few miles from the entrance and if you need ice or other supplies, this is your best bet as there is nothing within the park itself.

My noise rating should be qualified as noise during the week. I believe weekends are probably quite loud.

What a great find, Due to the State Parks being unavailable, I had to search for alternatives and found this park. It was much nicer than I had anticipated and I will definitely stay here again.

We stayed here along with three other couples. Three of the sites were adjacent to each other, so there was quite a bit of shared space. There are three circular loops (1 - 30) that are at the front of the park. While some of the spaces are close together, there are many that have large green spaces behind them. We were able to set up two Clam portable shelters between our trailer and the next and there was still plenty of room. There were trees for shade in many of the sites, but not all.

Due to Covid-19, the full hookup sites were the only ones available. We scoped out some of the closed sites (31-50) along the water that had only water and electric. They would be great for folks that enjoy fishing as the back right up to the water. The only drawback I could see was they would be in direct sunlight each morning.

There was another loop with full hookups next to the lake (53-68). They looked great for fishing, but didn't have as much green space as the loops 1-30. However, once again, they back up to the lake, so there was lots of fishing going on.

There is an upper loop with only water and electricity (sites 81-97). They didn't seem to be as well taken care of as the other loops, but had more trees and shade. They did not, however, have a view of the lake. Still, they would be a nice place to camp with either a small trailer or tents.

Cell phone reception (Verizon) was good, but the LTE data was only around 1 Mbps.

I can't vouch for the showers as they were closed and I didn't check out the bathrooms, which were limiting the number of persons who could use them.

This is a wonderful campground, though Site #1 is not a wonderful site. It was the least shaded site in the entire campground. Our back window looked right out onto our neighbor’s site (#21), and Site #2 looked right out into our site. Avoid it if possible. We had reserved that site because it was the only electric site left when making reservations. Also, I noticed a lot of folks walking through #21 to get to the bathrooms.

That said, this is a very nice campground and all other sites looked very nice and much more private. Most of the sites are spread out nicely and have quite a bit or privacy. There are three loops, with Water/Electric sites sprinkled throughout two of them, and Electric sites thrown in the mix as well. Most of the W/E and E sites are reservable, though there are a few W/E sites that are first come, first served. Get there early if you want one. This place was crowded and those sites went quickly. Sites are gravel and fairly level side to side.

Bathrooms are clean and centrally located. The hosts did a good job of making sure they were stocked properly and kept clean. The showers use a system with an upper and lower shower head. These are controlled by buttons that give you water for a minute, then shut off. Very unpleasant if you are in the middle of washing your hair and can’t open your eyes to find the button. Also, the upper shower head in both showers on our loop had much less pressure than the lower one. While the shower configuration is not a deal breaker by any means, it is good to be forewarned.

While we didn’t hike here, there appear to be several trailheads on the way to the campground. There were always cars parked there with both hikers and bikers. It is obviously a popular destination.

Verizon coverage was spotty, at best. While texts and calls could get out, data was rarely available.

Asheville is easily accessed from the campground. There were a couple of times we drove back to camp to rest before continuing for the day. The Blue Ridge Parkway is also easily accessed from here.

We will stay here next time, making sure to get our reservations in early!

We camped here along with a couple of other friends. After finding what we thought were nice spots in the Raven Hill campground, we proceeded to set up. Our two sites were wildly unlevel. Our friends had an RV that levels itself and by the time it was done, the front wheels were off the ground. About that time, one of the neighbors pulled out, so we took their two spots. Again, our site was very unlevel. Our friends then found after getting all leveled out that their sewer connection was actually uphill rendering it virtually unusable.

There are a couple other areas that are not full hookups, but we did not check those out. It could be they are a bit more level. My impression of this park is it is aging and could use some sprucing up. However, it is a setting lovely park set in a mature pine forest with an abundance of birds.

While I would camp here again, there are many other Texas State Parks that I prefer.

I booked this park at the last minute, and somehow ended up in Site 8, which is the handicapped site. It is easy walking to the bathroom from there, but that is about the only good thing I can say about it.

After backing into our site, I got out of my car and nearly stepped on the woman in the next site who was sitting in her lawn chair. Sites 6 and 8 form a V and share the same driveway. If this wasn't bad enough, these folks had a fire going which turned out to be right outside our window. Though the weather was pleasant, we had to keep our windows shut and the AC or fan running the entire time. In addition to their trailer, the family also had tent campers sharing the site. It was nearly impossible to get in or out of the site after they arrive and parked their vehicles in the driveway.

Site 8 appears to be part of where the water runs off from up above, so there was either silt or mud everywhere in the campsite.

I'm sure there are other sites here that are better, but avoid these two sites at all costs.
