This is a gem of a CG. All of the sites are paved and very large. Some on the outside lack vegetation so they don't feel very private. However site #9 is the crown jewel in this CG. Great morning sun for solar, afternoon shade to keep you cool and great view of the sky for Starlink! There is no cel phone coverage here. Short 10 minute walk to the nearby country store, short walk to the dam and a nice trail along the Gunnison River and it is a very short drive to Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP and into Montrose. The hosts were wonderful, as previously reported the dump station is closed. However there are other options nearby. Personally I would not recommend the city facility in Gunnison. Just seemed kind of chaotic and is a bit out of the way. We did dump there, but got water at Elk Creek CG and then dumped there on the way back home. I highly recommend this over the location in Gunnison.

This campground has a very strange layout as the sites seem to be arranged rather haphazardly. It is almost like the add a few sites every few years. Many of the sites are not very level, though ours was fine for our trailer. But a larger rig would have some trouble in site 15. Starlink was great, full hook ups, though the connections were not always conveniently situated. Lots of civil war history in this park and lots of great hiking trails. Decent sized sites and ours felt fairly private, the sites would feel much more private in the summer when the trees have leaves. We enjoyed this park alot.

Wide open campground, with not trees. Our campsite, #28 gets the first shade. Thanks to the Senior WA Winter Camping Pass, a site with electricity is only $10 per night. The campsite is only a 10 minute walk to the ferry terminal for visiting Port Townsend. The gun battery installations are fascinating and so well preserved. Lots of history here. We spent 3 days over in Port Townsend seeing the sites there. I was very happy with the campground and even though it is wide open, we didn't feel privacy was an issue as there aren't alot of campers this time of year. Joan, the camp host is the best!

This is a fairly typical National Forest CG. Most of the sites are level and can accomodate small <25' trailers. Great hiking nearby. Be sure to visit Monarch Pass and take the tram to the top. Gorgeous views. It wasn't full even over the weekend. A previous review talked about the bathrooms, I can't comment on that as we didn't use them, nor did we use the water.

I love off-season camping, lots fewer people and without leaves on the trees, I was able to get enough power using my solar panels. Summer would be impossible to get charged.

Sites are pretty large and have nice separation. The showers are adequate, it takes what seems like a minute of your time for them to get warm. Flush toilets, lots of pull-through sites. During the off season there is a loop closed, I think it was called D loop it has 40 sites.

I was able to find a hole in the trees for decent Starlink connection. I had no cellular connection with Google FI, T-Mobile. Our site was close enough to the camp store that I could get a connection from the park wi-fi, though it dropped alot, but sufficient to do email.

The park is amazing, lots of good hiking from the campground. Camp sites are half off with the Lifetime Senior Pass and it also gives you half off of cave tours for one person. With a family, it would get expensie quickly doing the cave tours. We did the Heritage cave tour and it was great! The cave is incredible, not like any cave I have been in before, but still beautiful.

The big drawback is the generator usage. My opinion is everyone ought to figure out a way to function for at least 24 hours without running a generator. Also people lack respect for the generator hours and there was no enforcement of the hours, which are from 8 to 8. First morning, the guy across the street started his up at 6 am!

All in all a great stop.

This campground is truly amazing. As it was off season, it was mostly empty. Our site was nice and level and felt private as we were the only ones on our little road. I would guess that when it is full, it wouldn't feel so private. Great hiking in the area and the old resort town of Elkmont is not to be missed. Bathhouses were nice and clean, There is a very small store at the entrance for those things that you may have forgotten.

Be prepared for generator noise. Some of the people either don't read the hours or don't care about the hours. Solar was ineffective due to the trees and sun angle this time of year.

Starlink worked in our site despite the trees, but there are sites on the south end where it would have worked better.

This is a primitive campground in the trees along the Mississipi. No cellular coverage and very limited Starlink coverage due to the trees. Sites are fairly private, Solar charging was adequte since the leaves were falling off of the trees, but would be very difficult during the summer. Road into the area is good, train tracks nearby with a couple of trains a day. Not much hiking here, but short drive to Hannibal to visit. We were the only ones here for two of the days. As mentioned before, great fun watching the tugs and barges pass by.

I stayed here in early November 2019. Lots of reviews regarding "homeless" problems. I didn't experience any of that. I did see one car where a guy appeared to be staying in his car, but no issues. Unless you count the hysterical, screaming argument one night from about 9:30 to 11:00.

The facilities were clean and well maintained. There was a little noise from the road, but our site was also close to the entrance. I used it as a base for visiting Tacoma. We would drive to the Federal Way Transit Center (about 5 miles), park our truck then take a bus right downtown. Parking was free and the bus is only about $2:50 each way. Makes for such a relaxing day.

I would stay here again if I were visiting Tacoma.

Our price of $6 a night reflects the surcharge from reserving online and the $10 a night discount provided by our Annual Camping Pass. The sites are mostly level and fairly large with very little privacy. As mentioned in a previous review, we did see the host going through the trash, he is looking for recyclables. I was not bothered by him doing it. The showers were nice and warm, though they have the button that you have to push every 30 seconds. The dump station was fine and easy to access. There are a few nice trails that wind through the area and the park actually has four campground loops and two dispersed (primitive) areas. If I were to return, I would try to get a primitive site as they are nice boondocking spots, or Riverside (below the dam) if I needed an established campsite. I would not camp at Apaloosa again, it just isn't my style, but worked fine for this trip.

Great solar and Starlink area.
