1 star Rating is because I had to give stars, your mileage may vary. Drove in, there were only two cars of day users there who left during the 30 minutes I was there. It was clean and level, though no shade...But.. I put on bug spray -before-I got out to explore, and was driven back into my van almost immediately by biting flies who knew how to draw blood. I must have looked like I was having a seizure for all the flapping about I was doing... those critters hurt! 😩 Wrong time of year for this spot, did not stay.

Tried Crystal Geyser first, was driven out by biting flies. This place was right off of I-70, easy to get to, pretty clean, quiet, a few other boondockers, no problems at all. No freeway noise, pretty views. Some shade available. During the short time I was there I neither saw or heard ATVs, but it’s clear they are there often enough! I was the only one using the trails- on a mountain bike.

stayed in mid July 2019. This is a horse camp with very nice facilities for the horses if you have ‘em. I am very happy the 2 campgrounds on the main road were not options because I ended up finding this great place. Nice large sites, clean, quiet, and 2-3 bars of service! There is wonderful trail system in this park, extensive mtb, equestrian and hiking on really well kept up trails. This was a really nice find. It’s off 2 gravel roads, but google directions worked fine.

Originally had been headed to spring creek campground, but it was full of tent campers. There were boondocking sites prior to the campground, but most were taken. Continued past the campground, and saw numerous side roads and places off this road. Picked one and found a decent spot. Previous campers had probably been staying a while... found some trash, the requisite empty ammo shells and a dead grill. I sighed, picked up some trash, and settled into a lovely forest setting for the night and next half day. Wished I could have stayed longer and will probably come back at some point

Shoshanna’s review is excellent. It really covers all the relevant issues and speaks for me and my experience. Non reserved camping options in July are limited in this area, and this campground was busy! I basically slept there, and after breaking camp, biked the (paved) Discovery trail from a trail head (Beard’s Hollow) within the park. It went to Long Beach so I had breakfast at the bakery there- maybe 8 miles each way. It was fun, but I just prefer fewer people and smaller campgrounds.

Stayed Aug 1-4 over a weekend. During my time there the camp was not “quiet”as other reviewers have noted, but it was...uh, festive, and it did quiet right down at night- which is what counts. And there was a little road noise as well. My site was lovely, in the D section, and the site was very clean, too. the flush bathrooms in the D section were clean inside but not new by any stretch of the imagination. It was the height of summer so there were people all around, which is to be expected. Rialto beach is fantastic, glad I went! One note, the chipmunks and birds are relentless about wanting your food, so heed the camp rules about keeping food in an enclosed vehicle😎

Stayed in Early June. I am not a super experienced camper, so I don't have a lot to compare this site with. It is not suitable for RVs any larger than Class Bs. My short wheelbase mid roof van stuck out a bit. Vehicles with *small* trailers -could- get in and out on the group side. The whole campground is has about 25 spots, divided into 2 areas. The lower cluster is the group site, a little exposed, and to the left are about 15 sites that generally only fit one car. The campground was clean, quiet and there was only one other car (in the group area) when I got there. It is about 7 miles down a dirt road, but accessible to campers in regular passenger cars and vans- unless there've been heavy rains. I was originally headed to the next campground (Bosque), but on this road beyond the 4th of July site you *will* need 4wd. For some reason, the next campers that came in were a young couple who pulled in and set up camp right next to me even though ALL the other sites in that half of the campground were empty - I have no idea why. So that was a bit of a bummer. Vault toilets were clean, but just "okay". No water that I saw. I'd say about 6 sites (total) were occupied by the time I left on Sunday morning. Plenty of uncrowded and decent hiking options.

I used to live in the area, so have camped in this general area many times. Some beautiful scenery in the area. Campground is usually busy. Lots of boondocking in addition to the campground itself further up the mountain, but locals stake out the best sites early. And some of them party well into the night. Loudly. With guns. Never had any problems, but common sense may be required. Heavy use area, which means most boondocking sites will have ammo shells and a bit of trash on them. Too far off highway 14 to really be a good base for quick Columbia river gorge exploring, but if you’re in the area for awhile, it’s a slice of nice southwestern Washington forest land.
