Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on May 08, 2024Easy drive to area, right off I70. Easy driving through area to find a camping spot. A few rocks in the roads but mainly sand/gravel. Lots of short PiƱon pine and cedar surround all very level camping spots. Amazing views- canyons, mountains in distance with snow and cliffs. Some fire rings. Trailer, tent and Motorhome access. A few ATV's. Mid week and very few people here. Have absolutely no neighbors in sight!
Verizon coverage of 4 bars is with booster. 3 Bars without.

Let me just say it seems the camping opportunities at nearly every exit along this stretch of hwy 50/70 are virtually endless. This is a great spot with enough space for many, many large rigs to all enjoy privacy. Views are fantastic. Camping opportunities begin less than a mile down the road and keep going for what looked to be at least 20 miles, according to one sign and map. My Verizon 4g signal without booster increased as I drove a bit further down the road. There are plenty of wide open spaces for solar, or shaded spaces amongst trees. You may need to do some mild offroading to get a nice spot, but nothing my low clearance 26' TT couldn't handle. There were several other rigs there.
Now... with that said, the wind was so unbelievably bad, I did not enjoy myself at all and vacated 1st thing am. It was unfortunate, because minus the wind it was a perfect spot.

We stayed here for one night to break up a long drive. The area I would recommend for big rigs is about 1.5 miles from I-70. The road is dirt, wide and slightly wash-boarded.
There is a large clearing on the left side of the road and you'll likely see other RV's in this area. There is plenty of room for many RV's.
The road you drive on to find a spot was fine for our 45 footer and we were even able to pull forward easily to leave.
Verizon service was adequate, but was excellent with booster. Speeds were fast enough to get work done.
The area is close enough to the highway to be convenient, but still quiet.
The area was surprisingly clean with what seems to be fairly heavy use.

I rely on Campendium reviews to find the best campsites (usually free) and once again this highly rated area did not disappoint. I was originally interested in the Swinging Bridge campground but it's 20 miles further down the road and there were no Campendium reviews.
The Buckhorn Draw camping area starts about a mile from I-70 exit 131 north side and the area is huge. Hundreds of people could camp there and still have more privacy than in a campground. I spent a week starting July 22nd and there was only one other camper in the entire area.
The location is great for exploring the San Rafael Swell area with countless activities within a 30-40 mile radius. Plus I had good AT&T coverage.
The only negative is the noise from the interstate can be bothersome but it's still a great campground for overnight or extended stays. I'll be back.

Stayed 5 nights lots of room. Stayed in the first area to the left as you pull of the road about a 1/4 mile. Experienced some wind. Area is full of Joshua trees and wandering trails. through them. you could get lost inin them, but the make great wind breaks. Some fabulous views Summer time would be very hot. Great exploring opportunities for OTR's Not a lot to do if you dont hike or have a vehicle to drive around with. I Nomad year round so I I do some hiking and have a trail bike, but enjoy the space Cell coverge was Meh.

38.892138, -110.648517 This is a huge area for dispersed camping. It is close to the highway, however, that means easy access and somewhat decent cell signal where there isn't much of any cell service otherwise. When you get off the highway, head to the north side and follow Buckhorn Draw Rd which is dirt then turns back into paved. The washboard is a little much, but, just go slow until you get back to the pavement. Once you hit pavement again, there are huge areas on both sides of the road and a ton of places to camp. It doesn't look like there are many places until you drive back off the road for a bit to explore. There are a lot of OHV people camping here on the weekend, but, they are completely gone during the weekdays and the noise on the weekend from the off road vehicles is tolerable as they don't ride around here other than to get in and out of camp. FYI - there is also plenty of camping if you head south on Temple Mountain Road, however, it is a drive to get to it and there is very limited to no cell service. If you like to be out by yourself though and don't care about cell service, this may be for you. We had 1-2 bars of Verizon LTE camped on the north side of Buckhorn Draw Rd. In this location, you are close to The San Rafael Swell, Goblin Valley, The Wedge and more.

Easy access to/from highway, but far away enough so that the road noise is minimal (though, in the distance, someone had a generator running all night). We arrived after dark and had no problem navigating the area and finding a nice site. Very convenient for a quick overnight, and decent cell signal.

There were countless options of places to stay and so we were able to park without any close neighbors! You can hear some highway noise but it's really not bad at all. Lots of wood around to make a fire in one of the rings. Lots of level space to just be and breathe!
