40 MH+jeep. If you don't have a 4x4 or ATV you'll be in the minority, so manage your expectations accordingly. Lots of noise and dust especially on the weekend and of course some people are more respectful than others with their speed. Same with music and generator noise. We were lucky to get a spot right along the river, so that drowned out a lot of the noise. Road was either dust or mud, depending on the weather. Not a lot of boondocking options in this area, but it's only about 15 minutes from Ouray and lots of hiking options so it was a good spot for us. We had 1 bar 1x with Verizon at this site. There's a park near the visitor center where you can fill up water jugs.

We drove around in circles for awhile trying to find it, didn't help that it was early morning and the sun wasn't up yet. Once we found it, very easy in/out for our SUV + 20 foot trailer, easy on/off interstate. Worth $10.

Everybody has different needs in a campground. We spent one night and wanted full hookups after dry camping, and a place we could get a reservation in advance. As others have mentioned, the upper campground is close to Hwy 61 so you get road noise. You hear less of that in the lower campground but there's a nonstop flow of traffic (at least on our June weekend stay) out to Black Beach, kicking up lots of dust. On the map site 26 looks like you'd be able to see the water, but there are trees obstructing so you just end up with all the road dust. Several campers had ATVs, grills, lots of lawn furniture...so it's obviously a nice stay for some. Entry road is good, sites are gravel and level, spaced close like a typical campground, no trees or shrubs for privacy.

We were passing through on 10 to 94 and originally stopped at Walmart in Dilworth and No Overnight Parking was clearly marked. So we ended up at this Walmart. For our mid-week stay this ended up being one of the best night's rest we've had at a Walmart. If you're a late riser it won't be great. We parked on the lawn and garden side near new construction across the street. We didn't have any truck deliveries at night, but it started up around 6a and construction noise was not long after.

We rolled in around 8p and there were already 5 other RVs and campers, plus later we realized people sleeping in cars and a Uhaul. Ended up being a dozen or so by morning. Convenient to the interstate, but not very quiet so it's a tradeoff. Street sweeper cleaned the parking lot at some point in the middle of the night. The parking lot lights are the brightest we've seen, looked like daytime in the middle of the night but adds to the feeling of security. We would stay here again.

Easy access from I35, easy in and out. Regular fee $10, $7.50 with Good Sam. We didn't have our card with us, and they looked up our account by our phone number. Minnesota nice!

Chloride parking lot helped keep the dust down. We arrived late afternoon and lots of traffic with the boat ramp. Noise and traffic dies down at night. We parked at the farthest end away from the water (closest to the entrance area) and a stream coming out of a culvert provided nice white noise. Not much shade, it's a big parking lot, but worked perfect for passing through. We stayed two nights and one of them was July 4th…so that evening wasn't quiet with locals shooting off fireworks for a couple hours. We had 5 bars VZW with directional booster, nothing without.

Road in was fine taking your time, couple deeper potholes and some washboard but nothing that concerned us in our SUV and 20 foot trailer. We had a perfect spot across from the geyser, a nook that protected us from the wind. No geyser activity during our stay. The 20 minute drive off I-70 was worth it for our one night stopover as we passed through the area. Very quiet. Bundled up and had a nice walk along the river, only saw two other people there for sunset. For more photos and history of the area https://roamingtogether.com/crystal-geyser-boondocking/

Stayed March 29. Google map shows this as Pine Spring Safety Rest Area 31.96066, -104.67969. Our original plan was to stay at one of the boondocking spots closer to Carlsbad Caverns, but we were in the area to do Guadalupe Peak hike and this was closer. Plus with 60 mph winds it was nice to be on asphalt and tucked in between the semis. Plenty of day parking at Guadalupe with spaces for our SUV + 20 foot trailer, so we rolled out early in the morning. Overnight at rest areas is OK in Texas https://www.txdot.gov/driver/travel/rest-areas.html?msclkid=ecebc5d8aad611ec9c64948fc5c3d415. It was as quiet as you'd expect a rest area on a busy highway to be, but it met our needs. 2 bars 4G, not great throughput.

Road in was frozen red clay (would be impassable when wet), we took the second spot on the left, which was the first level and accessible spot for our SUV and 20 foot trailer. First spot on the left only suitable for a camper van or truck. Some traffic going to Pariah, but nothing bad this time of year, mostly quiet. Nothing fancy. Road deteriorated quickly after the second spot - grade, ruts, mud. When we poked around looking for the old town site we were glad we hadn't stayed much longer as the sun had melted enough spots we weren't sure we'd make it back to our camper.
