We arrived around 6:00pm. No one was there. So easy to find, park. Amazing views and quietude. This is so easy off the I-10. Absolutely a fantastic overnight if you are passing through. What could be more convenient and beautiful? Circling hawks, distant valley views, nice breeze. A lovely sunset…would absolutely stay again if it fit into the calendar.

We could not get into Natural Bridges Campground which is small and first come first serve. So, Ranger suggested the abandoned airstrip, but on the way came along this gravel road that led to many pull outs that were worn and meant for camping. You are surrounded by red rock, or you have a perch with a beautiful view. Mostly easy in, easy out. Gravel, packed dirt. Depending upon the size of your rig, you’ll have to choose as per usual. Smaller rigs, obviously have more options. Would stay there agin, and maybe even IF there were room at the campground! It’s free. You and I own it.

Faywood Hot Springs was a great stop for two overnights. The place is rustic in the ways it should be, but also very serviceable. The tubs all around the property are great. Some clothing required, other clothing optional. A very very laid back vibe everywhere. We camped end of May. Since the altitude, warm days and cooling off nights. Campsite #17 is really the best one we saw and it was recommended when we booked. We are a 24” Class-C. Just a great location. Easy to find and not far off I-10 if you are traveling through.

This was a great one night overnight for us. But, I could see staying longer. It was a quiet weekday, so when we checked in, the agent sent us to a better sight. Number 11. It was a nice deck (many sites have wooden decks) with a dock! Site was quiet level and most looked that way. It would have been a nice topper to have laundry and recycling. No such luck. Stay at a site near the check in building just inside the gate. The further loop is very wooded and seemed buggy. No real natural light. One be negative is that there are geese and ducks all over and due to people feeding them, they can hover. To the point where our dog got sick probably eating their waste and ended up in the vet ER and ill for 6 days. Yes, a mess. But, it is nature. Just be careful and watch your dogs. Would definitely stay again.

This camp is very well run, clean, organized and easily accessible in Tucumcari, just off the Interstate. Clean shower house, has laundry (although didn’t use). The sites are full hook up and very level. Easy in and out. Good Sam members get a discount. Even though the owners are very friendly, their office is particularly unwelcoming. Unfortunately, the owners feel the need to express their political views quite aggressively in the office with lots of political bumper stickers and posters and messages and it is quite off putting to say the least. It is misguided to think you will change someone’s mind by posters at a business, but this can only mean they are telling certain customers they are not welcomed. It worked. We won’t be back. Actions like this only create more divisiveness in a country that definitely needs the opposite. We will choose to leave our money elsewhere next time we are traveling through Tucumcari and support businesses who are businesses for all customers.

This was kind of a last minute one nighter as we passed through the area. We now wish it were another night or two. Sites are very clean, paved, many pull through for larger rigs. Some appear to be kind of unlevel, but maintained just the same. Easy off the interstate. A wonderful lake and views and really bummed that there is no swimming. This is a really popular fishing like it seems. We’d definitely stay here again and would recommend. Group camps also available. No recycling…a thumbs down. Firewood was for sale when we were here. Oh, and great cellular coverage.

We did an overnight at this camp. Very easy access from the Interstate. Two large campgrounds, lodge, lots of day use areas. Site was level, they offer different combinations of hook ups. One of the campgrounds has laundry which was great. Outside the laundry was a “take a book/leave a book” cabinet…HIGHLY inappropriate for a STATE PARK - it was sponsored by the family of a woman who was a “woman of God” and it was filled with religious CDs, books etc. There is no place for something sponsored by a local person to promote religion. The “take a book/leave a book” idea is great, but not for selling religion. I can guarantee you that if I approached to install a similar thing with LGBTQ+ information/books/videos, they would never let me. There is no place for religious promotion in a public park. A huge turn off. Disappointing to not have any recycling. Shower house was not particularly clean, but at least well aired out. I’m sure people stay for longer durations, but we’d unlikely not stay more than one night as a pass through. It totally serviced the purpose for that.

Stayed one night traveling through. This is a pretty basic and less “campground”. Water and electric. Some beach camping for tents really. The sites are dried up grass and gravel. The grass had sharp things from the grass everywhere. Not a welcome at all at check in. No instruction, smile, thanks, nothing. Place was dead. Which is fine, just an overnight. Walked to the beach. Not particularly clean beach or water’s edge. Didn’t think swimming was a good idea unfortunately. The dog got those sharp thorns on her. Terrible for her walking. Lots of mosquito and similar bugs just invading the RV and we didn’t really even have any lights on. We thought a big box store parking lot would have been much better. Wouldn’t stay there again for sure. Would find another option. All was way less than fine, but, hey, you learn as you go.

Read the other reviews on Campendium and got a bit confused, as we drove around the reservoir and it seemed pretty crowded, especially the designated camping spots. But we Finally figured out how to get to the Tailwaters.. take the first gravel road to your right BEFORE you get to the reservoir and it will take you to the base of the spillway. There are roughly three camping areas, nothing totally developed, and there is a pit toilet and small fishing pier. We scored a spot under a tree (shade) facing the river and hearing the rush of the water from the spillway - totally ideal! Cooled off nicely at night to sleep with all the windows open. Had the place to ourselves except for a couple of evening fisherman that spent a couple hours on the small pier. Only stayed one night as we are on a schedule, but if we had more time, we would have stayed longer - as this is an ideal 'away from it all' place. Note, we were there on a Sunday night so I imagine weekends would be more crowded with fishermen.

This is our first time boondocking in Quartzite area. Dome Rock area is great…you drive past the more crowded areas to the east. We weren’t bothered by any Interstate traffic at all. Plenty of room here. Sunrises and sunsets are very nice. We had T-mobile coverage, but sometime slow to stream. Site we chose was so level that we didn’t need any risers. There are many spots that have a built campfire ring made of rocks. Nice. Suggest this spot for sure. And, easy to get to. The driving is on rock mostly, not sand, so weren’t concerned about getting stuck.
