As we headed east on I 10, we wanted to check out this previously unreviewed spot. Definitely will stay on our next trip through the area. The western view is phenomenal! The pictures were taken into the sun which explains their quality. Just down the hill is the Ft. Lancaster state historic area. Absolutely nobody passed us on the whole 290 loop of of the interstate that this site is on. There are 4 covered picnic pavilions with tables and grills and it is almost level. Any size rig will fit BUT, it’s one way in and NO turnaround loop. We had to unhook our flat toad to turn around. There’s a sign warning of this after you’ve already committed. I would recommend stopping at the entrance and walk up to take a peek. Any size rig not towing would have no problems.
This was very well worth the couple miles off the interstate. There is a large tar and chip parking lot I was easily able to turn my trailer around in. There are 4 nice pavilions and garbage cans. The most amazing view we have had our out kitchen to date!
This spot is about 10 miles off Route 10 And totally worth it if you need a night to rest while crossing Texas.
It will be a tight turnaround for larger rigs but doable if you can disconnect your toad. We had plenty of room with our 28 ft Airstream.
The view is outstanding and we had a couple goats visit while we were there. There was only on other camper there and they left before we woke. It was quiet and safe.
No toilets but they have picnic tables and trash cans. Cell service was decent with AT&T and Verizon.
Definitely recommend!
Actually, we wanted to stay more than one night. It was overcast, windy and drizzly so the view was a bit compromised, but we enjoyed it still with our big rig blocking the wind and a fire pit going. We did have to unhook the Jeep to get turned around and positioned for departure, but the peace and quiet along with the view are worth it. It's really not that far out of your way heading east or west, and the roads off I-10 to the spot are good. There's space enough for 4-5 rigs, and we had the whole overlook to ourselves all night. Very little traffic going by and wild goats wandering around the surrounding hills/mesas. Cell service was good on both Verizon and AT&T. This overnight spot is a great option in that part of west TX where there are few other options. We will definitely keep this on our favorite's list. www.ourepicfieldtrip.com
Really nice spot, the view is incredible. Really quiet. We woke up with wild goat. We’ll be back for sure.
We stayed here overnight on our way from Lakehills to Terlingua. Very quiet with beautiful views. There were locals that stopped to view the sunset and take pics. There was one other camper there when we arrived and another arrived after we parked. We were all pulling 5th wheels and had no problems fitting into the space. We would stay here again.
As you pull in to the picnic area, you’ll see a sign that reads “No turn around for vehicles with trailers,” but we had no problem maneuvering our 22 foot Airstream through the lot. It’s a very quiet spot, and only one other camper was in the lot with us. There’s enough space that running a generator shouldn’t disturb someone on the other side. At 7am I heard the goats on the hillside and walked my dog across the street and near the ledge to get a better view. We saw goats, and eagle, and a beautiful fox that scurried past us. There are picnic tables and grills. Photos attached. Would definitely drive the 9 miles out of our way to stay at this spot.
Had beautiful views and weather. It was end of July but great sleeping. Woke up to mama goat and baby (caused our dog to go bonkers) but we were inside the rv getting ready to leave. Definitely a place not to miss.
This is spot is about 9 miles off of I10 down a slightly bumpy country 2 lane. We have a 38' class A with Ford Ranger toad and opted to disconnect the truck to turn around. This is basically a parking lot with a few picnic tables. I probably could have made the turn but opted to play it safe.
There is a road below the Overlook but very little traffic. It was quite, dark, and a perfect temperature to not need AC so we didn't run the generator.
To my knowledge no one drove through the lot during the night.
Good enough Verizon service to stream. Verizon 3-4 bars, ATT 1-2 bars from inside the RV.
Perfect overnight stop. Great views and extremely quiet would stay here again
