Confirmed by 8 users | Last reported on January 30, 2023We stayed here during the RV show and it turned out to be a great option for free camping in the area. It was close to the show (about a 5 min. drive), had lots of options for sites, and even offered some very nice hiking and biking trails on the 4-wheel drive roads that criss-cross the area. The Dome Rock area offers a variety of camping options, from wide open flat spots on the side of the road to smaller more isolated sites farther away from the main road. We chose the later and didn't have to go far off the road to find a spot of our very own. If we ever come back to Quartzsite we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The only negative was no over the air t.v. channels and no NPR radio stations.

This is our second time camping in this area. In fact, we stayed in the same site both years. This is a large area west of town that allows free camping for 14 days.
There are lots of choices from very flat areas close to the frontage road to more private areas closer to the mountain. The sites are often separated by washes and plants that provide good spacing between them. We camped in one of those sites in the middle between the road and the mountain in a perfectly level spot with a great fire ring.
Although we were a bit further out from the frontage road, this particular area, just east of the Dome Rock Road entrance south of I-10 is a little closer to I-10 than some others so there was a little road noise.
There are roads throughout and they are quite popular with ATVs. They're also great for mountain biking. Be prepared for some dust no matter what.
The area is pretty rocky so is not the best for pets but there are some softer patches and plants around and not many cacti.
Our site on the far side of Dome Rock Mountain was about ten minutes from town. Check our blog post in the blog area of this site for our tips for Quartzsite.

We stayed here for one night on our way to Joshua Tree from Phoenix. The small "town" of Quartzsite is within 5 miles and Blythe, CA is about 15 miles away. The area we stayed was within eyesight of I-10 but we never noticed any highway noise. The views were very lovely and there are plenty of places to walk and enjoy the desert scenery.
The geography of the area means that there will be few people that can camp close to you. This is a good thing if you are visiting during the busier periods in Quartzsite. I found many level areas to choose from and had no problem navigating with our 40 foot beast. We had a great view of dome rock from our windows! Camping is free here since you are on BLM land which is a great thing.
PROS:
Space to spread out and not have neighbors on top of you
Easy access to the highway
Very little highway noise
Plenty of level areas to choose from
Lots of dog friendly hiking
Great views
CONS:
Quartsite has no quality grocery stores available, so come prepared
It can get busy during the RV show

This is our favorite BLM area in Quartzsite. There are enough little nooks and crannies that you can typically get some decent space to yourself even during the big show. Also easy access to town. Only ding is there is definitely some road noise from Hwy 10.

We stayed 14 nights at Dome Rock, large area to camp with nice views. Some Hwy 10 noise if parked off frontage road. Stayed in a 37ft moho drove back aways into a nice private area with a group of 20 friends and rigs. If your'e staying during the RV show this will get you away from the insanity of the town. Also easy drive to Blyth CA for groceries etc.

We stayed here with a group during the 2016 Quarzsite show, and it worked out quite well. The area has more character and hiking options than some of the more barren/flat parts of the desert, and you have plenty of choices of where to camp. There were many RVs parked just off Dome Rock Road with more highway noise and little privacy, but following existing dirt roads it's easy to find sites further away from the road that are quieter and more spacious. Unfortunately both Verizon and AT&T had very poor signals here... we had to set up our booster and even then sometimes we had weak and/or slow internet. A few miles closer to Quartzsite the signal and speed were excellent. Be sure to check in with the camp host (sign along Dome Rock Road) for your free camping permit. We'll likely return here in the future.

We really enjoyed this location, as compared to some of the other areas we've stayed at in QZ. The terrain allows you to find some spots to your own, without feeling so crowded in like some of the other BLM areas. Yes, it is close to the interstate - but you can find your way further back, and even into some dips where you can pretend it doesn't exist.
We enjoyed being to the west of town, which made running into Blythe for groceries much easier.
The hiking in the area is very scenic and lots of options.

Beautiful spot in the desert near Quartzsite with plenty of places to camp. Some ATV noise. Some distant highway noise.
Could get a T-mobile signal but no data. Customer service said tower is under maintenance.

We camped out here with for the Xscapers 2017 Convergence. Our spot was fairly quite and away from the road. There were large groups camped out here for the RV show in January but you can still find some solitude. The town of Quartzsite is pretty packed this time of year.

Stayed here for the second time in a year for the 2017 Xscapers Convergence. I don't know why we have a gathering here for a younger generation of RV'ers when it's a very crowded place with nothing really appealing to do nearby. Cell service, at that time of the year because of the RV show, got slow. Most of us work online and depend on good internet. You also have to position yourself so that you can see Q from your rig, pretty much, if you want to have service.
It can get super windy. Dusty as well, but that's Arizona. Best bet for amenities is to cross over into California (Not for gas, obviously) for groceries and such.
Still, I won't be staying here again, ever, unless something REALLY appealing is happening there. But next year, I think I will steer clear! It's just not my type of place!
