I’m not typically a fan of RV parks and prefer boondocking. However, I needed some work done on my vehicle and the shop recommended this place. I’m so glad they did! Vickie is a jewel. She owns and operates the park herself and it’s clear she takes great pride in the park and her customer’s experiences. When I expressed concern my dogs might bark she offered me a great site down in the corner that was a little more private so they wouldn’t see other campers as much.

Sites are level, and well maintained. Anytime someone leaves she mows down the area and puts more gravel down if needed. The laundry room is very large and clean. There are showers too but I did not use those. This place is the perfect location to use as a basecamp to all the nearby attractions and also be close to Rapid City for groceries, etc. I will definitely stay here again when in the area.

I admit I’m not the traditional “Thousand Trails” member. I did not join for amenities like pools, activities, mini golf, etc. I joined to have cost effective options to stay at a variety of places as a heavy traveler. Therefore, I really liked this campground. Some people have previously indicated the park is “dated” or “run down” and I suppose if you were looking at amenities listed above that might be true. I found the sites to be well kept, mostly level, and was lucky to score a FHU site. The park is quiet (my preference) and the staff is really friendly and helpful. They escorted me to my site at check in and answered all my questions. Will stay here again. I definitely recommend a WeBoost to boost cellular signal as the campground is remote.

The customer service was phenomenal. When I arrived, the gentleman working the front asked if I’d like to be close to the dog park instead of on the opposite end when he saw I had two dogs. He also offered to let me borrow a coaxial cable so I could watch cable TV if I wanted. The sites are gravel and very level. Each space is separated by a grassy area, fire pit and picnic table. All hookups worked perfectly. They offer garbage pickup at your site. I felt very safe here. As others have mentioned, the dog park side of the park is right next to some train tracks so you may want to sleep with your fan on.

I stayed a total of 12 nights over 3 different stays in 3 different sites, all in full hook up sites. One of them was a deluxe site with the patio. These sites are concrete pads, whereas the regular sites are gravel. There also appeared to be water/electric sites only in what was probably the original portion of the park; these sites looked more established with large trees, etc. All the sites are level, all the power poles seem to be in excellent working order. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, and the owners live on site. When I was supposed to depart but had a sick dog, Lana (one of the owners) helped me extend my stay, got me situated in a new site for the week, and recommended a vet to me. I work remotely so I have to stay an entire work week at a time typically. The wifi is excellent with boosters scattered throughout the park. Everything was extremely clean and well maintained. I will definitely be returning. Most the sites are well insulated from road noise except those at the top of the park which is right by 101. Even so, it didn’t bother me at all. I used an average cost of all my nights stayed since I was in a few different sites with different price points. I believe there’s also a slightly discounted weekly rate.

I normally boondock almost exclusively but I decided to splurge for a week of hookups. I enjoyed my stay so much I extended another week (and possibly a 3rd). The staff is extremely kind and professional. This park is very clean, well maintained and the sites are decently sized. There is a variety of site types including partial shade, full shade, and no shade (good for Starlink users). The dog park is HUGE and has a few agility type obstacles if your dog is so inclined. Like maybe 1/2 an acre huge. There’s a nice little on site miniature golf course too. The laundry machines are commercial sized TOP LOADING washers that actually get your clothes clean. The dryers run for what seemed to be close to an hour. They’re knob style machines so no digital display to know exactly how long they run. $2 a cycle/load each and not even a hint of mildew like many other places. The bathrooms are a bit dated but kept very clean. This is also a dark sky park so no exterior rig lights are allowed to be left on overnight so it’s nice for a little star gazing too. Very close to the Mesa Verde and about a 10 minute drive into Cortez for groceries, etc.

Overall very pleased, highly recommend, and will definitely be staying here again any time I pass through.

This place is a gem. Current rate for overnight camping is $18 per night or $9 with Access or Senior interagency pass. They do not give a discount with the Annual interagency pass.

Loop 2 with sites 6-13 are for cars, tents, or vans only - the sites are very small.

Loop 1 can accommodate small trailers - mainly sites 2-4. These are also in view of the river with river access.

The sites all have nice gravel tent pads. There are vault toilets in each loop, and dumpsters by the entrance. The camp host Jason is new this year and very pleasant and accommodating. He cleans the toilets/bathroom every night. Site 2 is the roomiest but there is a trail that cuts through the edge of the site and people absolutely will cut through it. I don’t think this is an “official” trail just one hikers have made over time to avoid being on the road. Frustrating to say the least especially over a holiday weekend but nothing you can really do. Site 3 seems to have the best actual shaded river access as there’s a small drop/path from the site down to a whole landing area you could set up some chairs and have a nice private shaded lounge area. Site 1 isn’t on the river but feels the most secluded/private.

My plans went awry and I had to find a place over the holiday weekend last minute. The only spot available at the time was electric only, back in. All that would have been fine, except it was literally packed in people in very narrow, gravel sites. You felt like you were in a parking lot. My 3 dogs didn’t do well in such close quarters with no grass or anything to lay out on. The next morning I went to the office to see what I could do. A row-end full hook up site had opened up for the remainder of the days I needed, and they kindly allowed me to credit the unused portion for my electric site towards the new site. That was a nice surprise, especially during the holiday weekend. The new site being on the end had a nice-sized grassy area and felt like I could breathe again.

The dog park was nicely stocked with bags and kept very clean. Everything was kept extremely clean. The camp store had a nice selection of laundry detergents etc.

This is not my style of camping but I would stay again when passing through due to the friendly staff and the extremely clean facilities.

Found this place passing through Kansas. What a wonderful hidden gem! The sites are nicely spread out, and are level and shaded. The park is well maintained and the grass is nice and thick. There’s a playground, frisbee golf and pit toilets, although I didn’t use any of those. Can’t believe the rate was only $10. Very quiet at night and seemed very safe.

I reserved a spot for one night that was so short I had to unhook my tow vehicle. Ok, annoying when you are planning on leaving again first thing, but not the end of the world. I called up front to ask if there as any other site I could switch to for the night and was told there was 1 pull through but it didn’t have sewer. Since I mostly boondock and had wanted to do laundry in my rig and refill my fresh water tank, I stayed in the tiny site. There were 5 empty sites down the side of me with gradually increasing lengths. They were still empty when I woke up. Tried to wash dishes in the morning, no water. No notification. Called the front office and they confirmed water was shut off for an undetermined amount of time but water was working in the bathrooms up front. Since I was leaving in an hour, I asked if there was anywhere I could fill my fresh water tank. I was told no - they don’t have that. ???? I will NEVER stay here again. Spaces are minuscule, packed in like sardines (or would be if they were anywhere near capacity). And don’t get me started on the man that “helped” me back. I was doing fine on my own, and where he left me was in an uneven position on the gravel.

This place is across the road from the river, and there’s a small pavilion with a picnic table in the center for anyone to use. But other than the scenery this place currently doesn’t have much to offer. The entire place, and especially the “sites” are extremely unlevel: both front to back and side to side. There are also extremely large rocks partially embedded making it uncomfortable even for tent camping. Even trucks and vans I saw come in here were using leveling blocks. Another drawback is since it’s right off the road, it made a popular spot for people pulling in for one nighters extremely late. And unfortunately there’s a lot of inconsiderate people out there when it comes to pulling in at 2am slamming doors and talking loudly despite multiple other campers being present.

There is some slightly level area at the turnaround near the pavilion.

Overall if you need a place to stop overnight and don’t mind about being severely unlevel, this is your place. It’s really a shame because the area is beautiful. I won’t be staying here again.
