We rolled in after hours, were assigned #19, a nice little pull through site all alone by the cabins. Nearly level and so peaceful after being on an interstate frontage road the night before. Pool says open until 8pm but locked up tight at 6 pm. Lots of sites in the trees with nice separation, some tent sites, and a few gravel pull through sites all in a row for the huge sun blockers. There’s a detour to get here due to bridge construction, a windy road but fine with our little rig.

We chose this park for its proximity to Petroglyphs National Monument. Is is convenient to I40, well laid out and very clean and well-maintained. Showers are individual small bathrooms with sink, toilet and shower and were spotlessly clean. The grounds are decorated with metal sculptures of animals, cowboys and a stagecoach. Propane is reasonably priced. Sites are gravel and red sand and were a bit messy when we arrived due to an overnight 4” of snow which quickly melted. There is some freeway noise but not worse than the wind in the trees at Grand Canyon.

We stayed one night after visiting White Sands NP. Our site was nearly level, right near nice clean restrooms and the friendly hosts in #25. Amazing views, quiet and friendly neighbors and a great deal at $14. It was full when we visited, do don’t expect FCFS.

We reserved site 14 based on our vehicle type and dimensions. Due to traffic we arrived after dark and found it was the worst site I’ve ever had to back into, basically inaccessible to even the smallest trailer. It was horrible to get into, narrow road and narrow entry plus big rocks on either side to protect a drainage pipe even narrower than the driveway entry. Don’t use this site unless you’re a tent or car camper or maybe a small camper van. I had to apologize to the neighbors for the 20+ minutes it took to wangle a 17’ trailer in.

We stopped for a quick overnight on our way towards a family wedding after visiting Zion and Mesa NP’s. #38 is a nice pull through site with water and electric, but we did have to unhitch to get level.

There were no vacancies but we were allowed to stay in the “side yard” which was a lawn beside the owners’ house, it had water but only a broken 20A outlet. The entire campground seems to be permanent residents with structures built on. The storage area, with a few exceptions, is mostly derelict units that have been there for decades and looks more like a junkyard. But the owners were friendly when we couldn’t find anything else, and the restrooms, showers and laundry are reasonable.

We didn’t need a pull through site but it was the only one available. Note that the loops are one way roads going counterclockwise, so if you’re on the left side, your door may open directly onto the street. Our site was great for our 17’ Casita, we were able to maneuver it in so the door was away from the street. We had 8 elk come in one morning and settle down for a couple hours just feet from our table. Choose carefully if you want solar. Ravens will steal anything left out! Restrooms are very clean, there’s only one dump station for the entire campground. Showers $2.50/5 minutes. No TMobile service at all.

We stayed one night on a transcontinental trip. This CG is convenient to I-70 but largely insulated from traffic noise. We were hoping to use the laundry, but it’s only open 10-6 with last load starting at 4:30 pm, worthless if you arrive later and need to leave before noon. Restrooms were serviceable and clean, with a notice on the door threatening to close them 6pm to 10 am if vandalism continues.

We were a little nervous arriving on a Sunday evening to a first come/first served campground, but were lucky in getting what e felt was a great site with a spectacular unimpeded view. We had bighorn sheep less than 60’ from our site. The campground was clean and well maintained and the facilities are great. This is a must-see park as well!

We were at Wheeler Gorge just as pandemic guidelines were tightening. Only one site in five or six was occupied, so it was very quiet. There are vault toilets but otherwise no services whatsoever, you’ll need to pack everything in. The lower loop is one way and some sites like ours (68)required backing around a 135 degree turn, which we couldn’t do without using the vacant adjacent site as the road is narrow and lined with boulders. Some sites are entirely private, others blends right into each other. Other sites have easier access. Some sites are adjacent to the highway, others have beautiful views of the creek or gorge. Zero cell phone reception, TV or WiFi, no water, dump station or power. There’s a very short nature trail; any other hiking means leaving the sites by car.
