We stayed 6 days at Riverwood and appreciated the care that went into this park. Friendly staff let us check in early and helped us get into our spot. Clean, ample laundry facilities. Nice spot by the beautiful creek to walk dogs.

This feels like what boondocking was meant to be: secluded, stunning, and an adventure to get to.

The road is washboard all the way but wide and an easy (if bumpy) drove for most vehicles. The sites themselves are right off the road and varied, a couple of them are pull-through half moons big enough to accommodate mid-sized rigs—I’d say up to 30’ RVs/trailers. Some have fire rings.

We saw a lot a half dozen sites in all, but did not go down several of the roads into the more backcountry areas. There may be more back there.

You’re surrounded by creosote and salt cedar, barrel cactus and prickly pear. Views are wide open and spectacular. Lots of trails nearby. Amazing geology / formations higher up the pass at and beyond Spirit Mountain.

Decent Verizon LTE and 5G signal (at least 2 bars, sometimes 3) along most of Christmas Tree Pass.

I recommend coming up from the west side/Cal-Nev-Ari as the Laughlin side is longer, windier, and you have to pass quite a bit of territory where no camping is permitted.

Easy to find off I-80, pleasant grounds and helpful owners/staff. Our site was a premium site at the top of the park, really nice with a tiled patio and a shaded picnic table. Laundromat with 3 washers and 3 dryers right next to the office. $2.50/wash and $2.50/dry.

We were close to the Susquehanna Greenway trails so took advantage of that, and had some good BBQ at Gio's BBQ in Woodland. It's located in a gas station, but don't let that fool you. Lots of good seating inside.

My only complaint, and it's a small one, was that the water pressure wasn't great—but I'm going to guess that's because we were up the hill a bit.

Our next-stay plans changed while we were en route, so we pulled over and used Campendium's "near me" map feature and found this gem of a campground just 20 minutes from where we were. We only planned to stay two nights, but loved it so much we stayed five. This is a lovely county park in the shadow of Mt Hood with spacious sites and partial hookups. Riverside RV sites are $35 and all other RV sites are $30. Tents have their own loop and I believe those are $18-20. Ours isn't a riverside site, but we can hear the water at night and there's a small trail out our door that leads to the river—about a 4 minute walk. We got here on Labor Day and have had most of the park to ourselves. Hard to beat!
