We had to stop for one night somewhere in this general area. A guy we met in Cortez told us about this new RV park so we called, got a reservation, and took advantage of the exceptionally long pull through and didn't even unhitch. We were on our way extra early, but enjoyed this clean, new RV park for our one night stop.

We planned to stay two nights but had to extend when our water tank was leaking. Rather than boondock near the North Rim we decided to play it safe and use Kanab and the RV Corral as our HQ for day trips to the North Rim, Zion, and Bryce. Alas, we were not drawn in the walk-up lottery for The Wave, but we shall return and try again! We really enjoyed our stay and made good use of the internet, the extra clean laundry room and bathrooms. And the dog run was great for our two little guys. If you're needing to stay in Kanab, this is a great choice.

We LOVED Canon Bonito RV & Fisherman’s Club. Al is a super host and he has created a laid back place where you can fly fish if you want (we did not) or do nothing if you'd like (we did a whole lot of nothing). Our spot was set off by itself which was extra nice. But if you have a group Al can set you up in a cluster of spots for a neat little community too. Just tell him what you're looking for and he will do his best to accommodate you. The amenities here are fairly spartan, but that's understandable given the setting. this is a place to get away. The Conejos River is a short walk from your campsite, yet far enough away we didn't notice any bug problem in late July. Morning temps were low 50's and then we had mid 70's in the afternoon. It's small, so call early to reserve a spot. Antonito has a nice grocery and Alamosa is less than an hour away if you need to hit up a Walmart or other major retailer.

We spent Thanksgiving here with our two young adult children and one of their friends. All five of us (and four dogs) had a blast hiking and seeing the fall colors. We were a week late for the peak of color, but we still had a wonderful time seeing the red, gold, yellow, and orange leaves, even those that had already mad their trek to the ground. The hiking is diverse with well over 20 miles of trails, some easy, some really difficult and steep. The park's trailhead areas are quite crowded, but the camping area was quiet and not overbooked at all. Check-in was easy, once we waited our turn as occupancy for the building is limited due to COVID. Don't just show up! Make reservations any time, but especially during fall foliage season.

This park was way too expensive for what it delivered. Very basic spots, some with shade, many without. I will say the bathrooms were really great, big with private rooms for each shower and toilet. But WiFi was weak and, though we never really want cable TV, when it's offered as part of what you're paying for it ought to work. Theirs did not. And there were kids riding electric minibikes up and down the drives and thorough sites. I'm not a "GET OFF MY YARD" kind of person, but this was annoying and I was concerned for their safety. When I went inside the office to discuss checkout, the young lady was just as nice as she was when we had arrived. But some older man was sitting behind her and stared at me like I had been featured on a flier in the post office. It was so uncomfortable i even asked him if everything was alright. He muttered something about the afternoon rain and I was glad to make my escape! Sad to say we will not stay here again.

Site 21 is a pull thru on the water and isn't level, so be prepared. But we loved it and the winter sunsets on the lake were spectacular.

It's a small park with narrow roads to access sites. If you have a big rig don't try to navigate the lower road and turn around without scouting the turning circle first. Hiking trails were great and there is a trail to paddle in the river and lake that look to be lots of fun. We did not fish but the fishing looked to be great. I did see lots of fish jumping.

Back to site 21... the neighbor in #20 is pretty close. Like everything they say you hear close. First night we had some real personalities in that spot. But they left and the new neighbors were great. I only mention that due to proximity. Get those loud persons who speak harsh and inappropriate words to children and it can be a little uncomfortable. The closest neighbor on the other side is 100 yards away.

We enjoyed our two night stay. The fee I posted is after the discount with our $70 annual Texas State Park Pass. The bison are great to watch, but take care. A hiker was gored and hurt badly while we were there! They will appear and surprise you. We were slowly driving along and stopped to watch a group. A bull came toward us, got much too close, but our only option was to drive forward or back up. We elected to sit still and had no issue. Got a great photo.

The views are really great, be sure to take in the stars. Facilities show their age and were not as clean as others we have seen, but that's not why we go or don't go to a park. If you must have nice up to date facilities, you'll be disappointed.

And yes, bison leave behind gifts similar to cows, so watch your step. Flies can be a nuisance, I'm sure because of the bison.

We had AT&T cell service just fine.

Ponderosa is small, only thirty or so sites. Ten are on the river. They are spectacular! Plenty to do and places to go, but who wants to? Sit at your site and enjoy the river, the mountains, they fly fishing, ducks and hummingbirds. They book a year out. Good luck!

WiFi is fine, cell is zip and none.
