The place is about 10 minutes from the south entrance to the Grand Canyon park. We drove about half a mile in from the highway and found a nice flat spot surrounded by trees. A family of Elk cruised by while we were setting up. Spots are at least 50 yards apart. Internet was on and off. The best Verizon I had was 4G with one bar.

Rolling from Vista Ca to Valley of The Gods. Since we were going through Prescott and Sedona we stopped here. Good dispersed camping overlooking a valley. No close neighbors. Fairly flat pads. Rock fire rings. We stayed all the way up against the mountain. Lots of quail and other birds. Verizon 4G with three bars.

We stopped here on a trip from San Diego to Bellingham Washington. I was originally planning to make the Bend area but delays during the day and my need for an adult beverage caused me to pull off the road and fire up Campendium. Low and behold we were about five miles from this place. It showed as free on the website but we found it was $10 upon arrival using the old stuff money in a box method. The campground is in the woods. The spaces are spread out. We did not use the restrooms because we are self contained. There is a water facet over a grate every few yards throughout the campground for washing dishes and such. There are a few hiking trails through the woods that go down to a small river. It is not the most spectacular place, but it is good for a stopover or a couple of days of quiet.

The first loop with the lower numbered sites looked OK, but we were staying in the second loop in space 56. Upon entering the second loop there was a family flying the Confederate flag, which set the tone. As we went deeper into the loop the sites got closer together. So close that the fire ring smoke from the adjoining space almost smoked us out. No kidding...the next site's fire ring was less than ten paces from our camper. To add insult to injury the bathrooms were behind our spot and the only way to get in was through our campsite. After the third 250 pound guy walking through with nothing on but shorts with his butt
crack hanging out we just climbed into the camper....after locking up our stuff.

Drove out three and a half hours from Bellingham only to find the Upper Bobcat closed “until further notice”. Fortunately the area is loaded with other options between campgrounds ($13) and turnouts. We found a little spot a couple of miles up the road nestled in the trees next to the river. It was a single spot but had a campsite post with a number. It was unclear to us if the rate for those spots was less than the campgrounds because it had not toilets, tables, etc. Never saw a ranger to get the 411. We actually went to the station near Winthrop. It was closed for the weekend….go figure?

The area burned last year and there a plenty of warning signs about trees falling. Most of the forest roads are closed. No cell service.

The road in was paved. You are about twelve miles from Winthrop, a small sort of Old West town. If you have a separate vehicle it is worth a look.

We did an overnight here. It is definitely off the beaten path, about 20 minutes north of the river on smaller roads. When we arrived we had no reservations but it was midweek so we got a spot. The spaces are private and are separated by dense vegetation. It was beautiful...almost like being in a rainforest. There a creek running behind out site. Our rig is just under 24 feet. We did not have any problem with length, but because our camper is just under 13 feet tall, we had to skirt around some low limbs.

We thought is was a pretty nice little campground. If we did not have an end destination we needed to get to, we would have stayed another night.

Found this on the way to Vegas from The Valley of The Gods. When we pulled in there were several rigs near the road. There were 5 bars and 4G of Verizon there.

We pushed on for about 3/4 of a mile on FR248 and found a large spot on a feeder road with nobody around. We still had three bars and 4G of Verizon.

It is fairly heavily wooded so stationary solar panels on a rig might be a problem. I carry a Renogy suitcase panel so I could chase the sun around.
