We thought we scored big with this spot. Its pristine beauty right at the base of the mountains seemed perfect. But alas, nothing is perfect. After two months of wintering in an RV park, we were ready to dry camp for a while. The dirt road from Ghost Town Road is fairly smooth. There were several areas to access lower elevations for camping but as I said, we wanted privacy so we drove to the last level camping spot before reaching the old Pioneer Cemetery. Our first clue should have been the abundance of empty bullet casings lying around but the views were incredible so we set up camp, enjoyed the serene setting and did a little star gazing before bedtime. The next morning, and every day since, we have had people drive by and tell us we had camped in their shooting range. Some drove about 50' past our camp and proceeded to shoot anyway. Others just gave us the evil eye. And one day a Jehovah's Witness made the climb up the mountain to invite us to church. What made us decide to relocate, however, was the man who arrived on an ATV, informing us that the Congress townspeople were gathering at our camp in two days for shooting and festivities. He said he hoped we didn't mind. I get the feeling that even if we had, it was obvious they were coming anyway and did not intend to find another area for shooting . . . which there are plenty of suitable locations. Since our dog is frightened of gunshots, we decided to move. If we had camped in the flatter desert floor, we would have been pretty close to other campers but would not have been bothered as much.

I camped here with friends about the same time last year. We had a spot near the hills. I'm back this year, alone, at a spot closer to the newer cemetery than to the hills. It's flat and fairly smooth with vegetation on three sides that slopes down to a wash with lots of animal tracks. I can see a couple of neighboring campers but there's plenty of room between us. It has been quiet so far. I'll see what the weekend brings.

This was a one night visit as we traveled through the area, but we would definitely go back. We took the road off to the right, just past the "Old Cemetery" -- GPS: 34.188691, -112.852888.
Beautiful site, beautiful views, working Verizon signal. There were others camping in the area, but none close enough that we could see them from our site. For an hour or so in the evening, it sounded like someone was shooting target practice on the other side of the ridge -- but it was not dangerous to us, and the shooting stopped before dusk so the noise was not a problem.

The ghost town was private property, you can't get near it. We gave it 3 stars, because the ghost town was the reason we picked it.
We are tent folk, so we still had a good time. The stars, and scenery were great. Very quiet, too close to people. Most of the RV people were very friendly.

leave Congress on Ghost Town rd, cross over cattle guard and continue on dirt road toward mountains. Monday evening probably 8-10 rigs scattered widely. Closer to the mountains the locals pull up for shooting practice but not disruptive. The brush is interspersed with cactus, the sites are clean, the birds are singing and it's really quiet.
after the sun set the frogs (sounded like frogs anyway) and night insects began singing and it was so perfectly peaceful, wonderful place to camp!

We were really happy to find the majority of Ghost Town Rd in paved or smooth shape. Make sure to turn right on Cemetary Rd and then the camping area is on your right.
Plenty of room for our truck and horse trailer which is nearly 50ft. I think there are some long term campers here for which we rated the site at four stars instead of five, but there is plenty of room and lots of sandy level areas.
Bring some firewood for a great evening. Enjoy!

This place was great & only a few other campers. There is one dip in the road coming in that gets washed out so take care if it's rained. Other than that the dirt roads were pretty good. It's not very remote so you do have moderate in/out traffic as th locals target practice & there are two cemeteries. We are definitely going to come back to this place if in the area again.

Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon, walked ahead a few times to scoute for a spot. Well maintained roads on the way in, a few ruts from the rain, but good enough conditions for us to go with “Tiny.” Stayed within a hundred feet of a couple long term campers, whom were friendly and very excited to talk about solar power. There were about ten other rvs and campers that I could see scattered around the area. Also an occasional series of gunshots would ring out further down the road closer to the mountain, which didn’t bother us, and I believe it is allowed. Beautiful pink and orange sunset to end the day with billions of stars appearing as it got dark. Lastly we heard a wild burro in the distance but didn’t make a visual.
