This is located in town. There is a huge lawn with enormous Cottonwood trees providing shade. The campsites are huge. Although not most campers idea of a wilderness campground it’s a very peaceful location with enough space for privacy and a good jumping off point for the parks in the area. Plenty of amenities.
The only caveat I would mention is the tent only sites. They are basically a series of parking spaces in a row with no privacy and no shade. Spring for the partial hookup sites.

Spacious, open campground. Water at each site and trees at most sites. There are small tent pads (we staked our vestibule outside the tent pad) with eye bolts around the tent pads for guylines - apparently it can get windy here. Nice feeling of the desert atop a small rise with a view. Bathrooms have running water and soap. Very nice campground.

I will caveat this review by saying we didn’t stay here; we took one look and left.
This is the weirdest campground I’ve seen. You park in a parking lot and schlep your stuff a long ways up a hill to your campsite. Sites are crowded together with no privacy. A covered picnic table is provided. The numbers indicating which site and parking space are yours are often missing. Not my idea of camping.

Came up here to beat the heat as well, successively (mid July). Place practically empty. Sites spaced well apart. Gravel parking, mowed native grass tent pad somewhat hummocky due to tree roots. Picnic table, fire ring, taller BBQ grill. Large center meadow with deer constantly wandering through. Sites under trees for shade. Pleasant, undeveloped campground.

This campground was built by the CCC in the 1930s in an old growth forest and both the forest and the old stone and log buildings are gorgeous. Being an old campground the spaces are back-in and not terribly wide. Nominally level. There is lots of privacy between campsites. Picnic tables and fire rings. Water spigots and trash at frequent locations. The bathrooms are flush with sinks. Very peaceful visit. Cell available.

The sites are far apart so you aren’t on top of your neighbors. Pine trees provide shade. The place could use a little work but still wasn’t too bad. It’s close to the road but the road noise wasn’t noticeable at night. The tent pad wasn’t level and was simply dirt. Bathrooms far apart. Still a peaceful enough campground.

This is a simple, somewhat cramped campground located in a gorgeous canyon next to the Chaco ruins. There’s no sun shelter or water source in the campground (the water is up at the visitors center). There is running water in the bathroom. Nice sandy tent pad.
We took the north route in and the roads weren’t nearly as bad as the Park Service website warned but we weren’t pulling a trailer or driving an RV. Heed the park service advice!!! Follow their directions and not your GPS or you will be in the middle of nowhere.
Campsites are by reservation only, no drive-up unless you’re really lucky.

This is an immaculately maintained campground. The sites are huge with level gravel pads. There are Eucalyptus and palm trees throughout the campground, and a large lawn by the bathhouse. Pay showers are available. Almost all sites have hookups but a few are available without for less. There is a $4 per night pet fee. There is a lovely view of the mountains. Many sites are right on the reservoir which is cement lined and allows fishing but not boating or swimming. It’s a very popular place for fishing. Mostly occupied by large RVs and quiet guests. This is an urban campground, not a wilderness area.

We stayed in the dry camp side which is practically empty so we didn’t have crowding issues. The hookup side looked pretty full. The sites are grass under scraggly trees and very level. There are picnic sites across the driveway that we have the use of and they are right on the river, with a wonderful view of mountains in the distance. Very quiet and peaceful and a lovely place to stay. Water spigots are frequent but the water tastes funny. My only complaint is that there is only one bathroom and it is a very long way away from the campsites, so we bicycled there. Bathrooms were clean and so were showers.
Drycamp fees are $35 plus $2 for the dog.

We met friends here, otherwise we never would have known about this place and what a wonderful surprise! This is the confluence of 2 rivers but aside from the amazing location this is a very well maintained campground that is little used. There is one central pit toilet and water spigot. The sites are spaced well apart with a sun/wind shelter. My only criticism is that they are designed more for RVs and don’t really have much of a tent pad so if you use a tent look for a site with enough space. It can get windy here so plan on guywiring your tent. The hiking is fabulous and the views amazing.
