Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on August 05, 2016We got lost on the way to this park despite a very large sign telling us where to turn off from highway 191 but it's very easy to reach from Watch for Cottontail Rabbits on the road- they seem suicidal especially at twilight.
The park is nestled in between spectacular red rocks next to a large reservoir. The park also features a fantastic dinosaur footprint trail which is 3 miles round trip- I highly recommend taking time for this.
You can rent stand up paddle boars and canoes for a very reasonable rate of 35 dollar for 4 hours.
There are no showers available but they have 2 large bathrooms and a large fish cleaning station.
I would not recommend the regular camping spots as they all seem very close together. The spots in the middle of the park are all in a green lawn like space but most of the spots are on a slope. I highly recommend the 2 teepee spots in the park. RVS will have no problem fitting here- there are spots for all sizes.
Site 23 is the brown teepee right next to the entrance. We were worried about noise but it was very quiet both friday and saturday night in mid summer. The Park Ranger on duty is a police officer and his home is right behind the teepee site so we felt really safe.
Site 38 has a prettier blue teepee with a gorgeous view of the water. UPDATE: this teepee was blown down 2 weeks later and is currently unavailable.
Both teepees had artificial turf flooring which is great for keeping the critters out. We saw the Milky Way and a huge black and cream stripped snake. The nearest town is about 30 minutes away in case you forget to get something.

I will caveat this review by saying we didn’t stay here; we took one look and left.
This is the weirdest campground I’ve seen. You park in a parking lot and schlep your stuff a long ways up a hill to your campsite. Sites are crowded together with no privacy. A covered picnic table is provided. The numbers indicating which site and parking space are yours are often missing. Not my idea of camping.

This is an odd campground in that it is basically a paved parking lot with covered picnic tables and fire rings in a grassy area in the center and on the outside edges of the "sites". However, during our stay we were the only camper there. It does provide lovely views of the Red Fleet formation and the water. We would probably not stay here if it was crowded and stay down the road at Steineker State Park instead. We have Verizon and had no cell service here or in nearby Vernal, Jensen, or at Dinosaur National Monument. Also although the campground is open year round ( pay envelopes) the bathrooms and water we're already turned off for the winter. They do have 3 or 4 sites with water and electric, but all others are dry camping.

We came late in September and had the park to ourselves. It was great in that context, but if there had been other people here...no thanks. Sites are as tight as can be, you practically step into the next site's sewer hookup. Price is right though, at $25/night for full hookups.
