For hiking and general beauty Hocking Hills State Park is a real gem hence the 4 star rating. Unfortunately the park campground isn't up to snuff (by itself I'd give it 2 stars. As others have mentioned the sites are close together with little privacy between them, better than most KOA's but not by much. On some loops the bathrooms are nice, modern facilities; those on the loop we were in were the pits (you know what I mean, like in the 60's :-( ). The cost quoted includes a $6.50 reservation fee. We were only there for one night and were glad we hadn't planned a longer visit. On the positive side everyone there was pretty friendly and the staff were nice. Most sites seemed fairly level, ours was only off by 3-4 inches over our 144" wheel base Sprinter.

Oregon Inlet is very flat and wide open, the sites are fairly close together and don't offer ANY privacy. Th eCG is just off Hwy 12 (the main N/S route on the barrier island) and road noise is noticeable. It was quite windy when we visited and cooking outside proved impossible. The beach appeared to be pretty beat-up, probably due to storms. On the positive side it does have water and electric sites.
Note that our rate reflects our Sr. Pass for the National Parks System. Still much more reasonable than the $100+ at the nearby KOA.

We spent one night at Geneva-on-the-Lake SP as we were traveling from upstate NY to Detroit MI area. The price quoted includes on-line reservation fees and taxes and was for an electric only site. On-line reservations were easy. We arrived after hours and just drove to our site and set up without interfacing with the CG staff. The sites are all fairly level and easy to access but are a bit close together and open for my tastes, despite being in a nice wooded area. Sites near the camp store towards the entrance of the CG are even more open so if you like that choose one of these which might be labeled as overflow. All in all a fairly nice CG but nothing special. The bath houses, located at either end of the loop we were in, were clean and well maintained but not real close to the site we had selected.
The feature which really impressed us about this park is the walking/biking trail easily accessed from the CG which follows the lake shore from the CG, past the small marina, to the town of Geneva-on-the-Lake. The town itself is overly touristy for my tastes (I'm tempted to say tacky but some folks really like it). The trail itself is nice enough to warrant an extra star for the CG.

New River State Park has a truly wonderful campground. Sites are reasonable secluded (which doesn't show in the photos) with one exception (11 &12, a great buddy pair). Some site are configured "backwards" such that the utilities would be on the passenger side of the vehicle if backed in (1, 4, 8, 11, 16, & 17) but even these could be accommodated in most cases or would be a really great tent site. Some sites are multi-level with the picnic table and hearth above or below the parking pad, these always have steps to the make things easy. There are lots of nice, easy to moderately difficult trails down to the river and a gorgeous visitor center. The bathrooms are modern and immaculate, a really nice change of pace. The roads coming in are wind around bit but easily negotiated, hence the 4 start rating there. Just can't say enough about this CG.

Nice little state camping grounds. We just stopped there for a night on our way out to Salt Lake for a family Thanksgiving. When we stayed the place was full of Hunters with a few bucks hanging after a successful hunt. Nice facilities with a friendly host (don't let the dog scare ya, he's all bark). Bathrooms were nothing fancy but reasonably clean. Spacing was a little tight for my taste but nothing link a KAO. The park itself was very pretty.

We overnighted here in the Addison Run Loop on a trip between Raleigh NC and Rochester NY. The Staff and check-in were great, as seems to be the case with most MD SP CG’s we’ve visited The site we had selected was fairly level (which most seemed to be) and neat but there was a smattering of trash that some careless campers left for our enjoyment. Site spacing was reasonably good, almost all the sites were very shaded and in deep woods. Bathrooms were OK, not the cleanest we’ve seen and a touch dated. All in all we’d stay here again but would probably pick Greenbrier SP which is close by over Cunningham Falls, although the park itself seems to be very pretty, we just didn’t see a lot of it due to our schedule.
Be warned, the road up to the CG is a narrow twisty up hill one and may prove challenging to larger rigs. We drive a 20' Sprinter camper so we had no problem but I'd hate to try to haul a 35' 5th wheel up it.

We only spent one night here as were were traveling to upstate NY but plan on returning for a longer visit. The sites are all non-electric (i.e. expect some generator noise) but most are fairly level and in excellent shape. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. The location is fairly remote in the Shenandoah National Park so don't expect TV or Cell service, a plus in my book. The drive getting to the CG along Skyline Drive is very scenic both to the North and to the South. There's lots to do in the area but plan some well spent time getting to and froe.

The Maryland State Park campground is a pure beach camping experience. If you’re looking for privacy, this is not where you want to be. All the sites are close together with nothing but sand and grass in between; and an occasional wild pony which the kids will love seeing. On the plus side the sites nearly dead level, in fact the entire CG is nearly dead level. Come prepared for wind, sand stakes are called for. The bathhouses are up-to-date and well maintained. The Atlantic Ocean is just over the dune a short walk from the campsites; be sure to use the access points and keep the kids off the dunes, they’re much more fragile than they look. Ocean City is a short drive away for supplies; prices reflect the relative remoteness of this barrier island location. For a more forested habitat take the level bike paths over to the Assateague National Wildlife Reserve a few miles further South on the island; there is some excellent bay side birding here. A word to the wise, reserve early (like 12 months early) if you want any hookups as this CG books up quick.

We spent only one night at Greenbrier SP in the Cedar Loop site C91. Spaces are fairly well spaced and well wooded but the CG is pretty hilly. Most sites seem fairly level, although ours was about 6” low in the back, but the approach to the pad will likely be up or down hill. The bathrooms were a bit dated but well kept and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all I would rate this CG about 4 ½ and will definitely consider this for a longer stay if we have the chance.

We overnighted here on our way through WV and the New River Gorge NP. Camp Creek is a very nice state park with good facilities even though a bit on the small side. We chose Blue Jay CG as it is more wooded than the Mash Fork CG, which boosts full hook-ups; there is also an CG aimed at the equestrian crowd. The Blue Jay facilities are primitive but fairly clean and don't have the typical "pit" feel (or smell). the site pads are gravel and a bit challenging to level but not too bad. Staff are friendly and very available, passing through several times while we were there. The good sized creek immediately adjacent to the Blue Jay sites is a real plus, providing a very pleasant white noise background. The park is very close to the I-77/64 corridor but doesn't suffer any traffic noise that I could detect. The quoted fee includes $1.24 tax and a Veterans discount.
