Middle of nowhere. Literally. Even the Wendy’s was closed. Do not come here if tent camping, sites are directly facing RVs. No grass. No shade. Staff was very friendly however and let us upgrade to a cabin after hours.
If you’ve ever even set foot on a single national park, Garden of the Gods will be a joke to you. It definitely did not live up it’s name. Decently sized red rocks but the only thing you can do is drive around them. Very crowed. Nice discovery center for children, however. Nice thing is that it was free, cafe and gift shop insanely overpriced. If you’re driving through the area, maybe plan to spend 1 hour. No more.
We wasted an entire tank of gas and it took an hour to drive up the mountain to see the trees. Don’t get this place mixed up with the Redwoods National Park, it’s not the same thing. The drive up to even see the trees is extremely time consuming and curvy, it’s dangerous to go faster than 20 mph on those roads. Not worth the time in my opinion.
Nothing much in the area. Clean bathrooms, but no shade for tent campers which is very necessary during the summer when it gets to be 80° at 8am.
This place made me feel dirtier than if I’d been sleeping on the sidewalk. The bathrooms were dirty and the showers barely functioned. I felt dirtier AFTER showering than I did before. Peacocks woke me up at 5am and didn’t let me fall back asleep for more than 30 mins. I would only recommend this place to people who have small children (dirty), don’t stay here if you’re just passing through. There was a ridiculous amount of teepees, a frankly racist amount. Tacky.
A pretty good Suoer 8, conviently close to Joshua Tree NP. Nice pool, clean rooms.
Looks haunted. Feels haunted. Our room only had a bathtub so that sucked. Decent price and the owners were friendly though. Not a bad drive to the Grand Canyon.
If you’re driving through NM to AZ you’ll probably see this weird... thing. The museum was closed so I still don’t know what the Very Large Array is. Kinda cool. Mostly meh, keep driving.
Absolutely adorable Inn near White Sands NP! Staff was friendly, the rooms were clean with a good vibe. Motel style so parking right outside the rooms. Complimentary muffins and coffee in the mornings. The town, Ruidoso also has a small town charm but beware almost everything closes at 4-5, not much nightlife outside of the casino.
In the absolute middle of nowhere, two sex shops and a porn studio nearby, but no restaurants. A bit of a drive into actual Amarillo. Also, if you’re tent camping, check the wind speed, because our tent almost blew away at 1am lol. No complimentary coffee either.
