The nightly rate is deceptive because it doesn't include the $18/day state park fees (out of state rates). So, this is really a $38/night dry camping spot with 30amp/15amp shared electric (bring an extension cord). The entire camp is on a slight slope towards the lake so you'll need leveling blocks in addition to your jacks. This is a typical, crowded, state park but it's clean and right on the lake. The sites are all grass 'areas' vs pads. So you can place your rig in the site area any way you want. You'll need to plan out where your electric access is and weigh that against your view and ability to level. Sites share electric at the back and are spaced tail to tail. Sites are generous and I was able to park my 38ft class A at an angle with no problems. Also, you're just feet off of a highway that apparently the locals like to drive on with loud vehicles and honk (presumably to annoy campers??).

The advantage to this place is the lake view, beach, and proximity to all of the excellent hiking, water falls, and Lake Superior in this area of the UP. I would stay again despite the challenges. I'm definitely more of a wide-open space lover, so my views of state campgrounds are never as great as some of the BLM and National Park lands out west. So, take that into consideration.

This casino has dedicated RV and semi lots and they are HUGE. I parked along the I10 side and was alone. I had my slides out, awning out, and was able to run the genny as long as I wanted without a care (I 10 is way louder than my genny!). Easy access to the casino and restautants. I don’t gamble, but I am more than happy to buy a meal as a thank you for the parking space.

This is a very busy state rec area on a very popular lake. Its proximity to Bloomington and Indiana University makes it a popular day trip location. I stayed here for two separate 14 day stays during August and September 2021. My first site was near the entrance; #13. It wasn't bad and I stayed here 14 days. Level and of good size and easy enough to get my big tall rig into. My second stay was at a site in total sun with direct access to the lake (I can't remember the site number, but it's at the end of the first spur in the sunny clearing). Here I was on a asphalt pad with my canopy facing the huge open area. Yes, there was foot traffic occasionally but not much. I was close enough to a bay off the lake to carry my kayak down to the water and just left it tied to a snag for a few days.

As far as state parks/rec areas go, Paynetown is a decent place to spend time. It does get busy and can be noisy during the day but it quiets down in the evenings. If you're a boater, you'll be in heaven here. Bring your own or rent one at the marina. There are some great trails right off of the campground for those who prefer to hike. NEGATIVE: lots and lots of bugs (noseeums) and biting flies near the lake.

Signed at entrance "no trucks". The huge gravel lot near the other hotels has "no overnight parking" signs. Skip this casino and head 2 miles down to Spotlight 29 which has a giant lot for semis and RVs with 2 nights allowed per the signs. See my review on that location for pictures.

I spent one night here. I only needed hookups to do laundry and some power hungry things before moving onto Cosmic Campground. Road here can be driven by any sized rig if you're careful. I am 13 ft tall, 38 long, 9 wide,, with a toad. For one night, it's fine. This is in NO WAY a resort. Site 6 was the only place my motorhome would fit. They seem to think this would fit in site 2 (also a 50 amp site) but there is no way it would. I had to disconnect my toad to back into site 6 given the tight quarters. This is a gravelish dirt lot. Old connections. Weeds. Sewer and water are inches apart. See photos. Way overpriced (40 cash only) for what it is. The RV park on 180 was full (30 bucks) so this was my second choice. If I am ever here again, I will try something else. (The other RV park did not even mention this place when I asked what else was in the town...upon arrival, I understand why.)

Positives: services work. Super quiet at night. On the same road to the catwalk (3.7 mi away). Self pay kiosk. You'll need to text the reservations manager to reserve and get the codes for the bathroom lock.
