A truly amazing place with incredible ocean views, bluff trails and beach access. Bring a picnic, and then enjoy your lunch at one of the picnic tables near the beach access point. After lunch, head up on one of the trails. I took the southern loop trail which was a very well marked and easy trail on the bluffs with ocean views. It was a clear day so we had fantastic visibility, but the wind was very strong. Make sure you dress in layers, you never know what kind of weather you will get on the coast. Note: Although leashed dogs are allowed in the little picnic area, dogs are not allowed on the trails.

Located in the Sonoma Coast State Park, Wright's Beach Campground has 27 campsites that are located adjacent to the beach. Sites 1-10 are premium sites with ocean views. It is important to note; however, that the ocean here is far too dangerous for wading or swimming. Sleeper waves, riptides and a strong current make it one of the deadliest beaches in California. Parents who let their children get too close to the ocean (which means playing on wet sand) will receive a stern warning from park rangers who will check in from time to time on the bluffs above the beach.

We manage to snag a premium site once or twice a year. It takes some planning and persistence to get one of these coveted sites because they are booked as soon as they become available, but is worth the effort. The sites are semi-secluded with trees or bushes between sites, but you may be exposed to the elements (strong winds).

There is a trail that begins on the bluffs above the park (Kortum Trail) that is well maintained and offers up stunning coastal views. You can also hike along the beach from the campground for about a mile, and sometimes you won't see another person the entire time. Dogs are allowed on the beach (on leash), but they are not allowed on the Kortum Trail.

If you like falling asleep listening to waves roll onto the beach; this is not the place for you. The ocean thunders onto the shoreline at night in a magnificent display of the power of nature. Awesome.

Beach, boat ramp and campsites, what more do you need to enjoy the Colorado River? And if you have your own boat, there are 32 campsites along the water's edge.

Our 30-amp site with electric and water was $30/night.
The campground is clean, and quiet at night, which we REALLY enjoyed after 3 nights of camping elsewhere next to a highway. And also included is a night sky full of stars for no extra charge!

There are several hiking trails. I hiked the Whytes Retreat Trail, which is an easy 1.5 mile (3-mile round trip) hike that starts in the park near the beach and follows the shoreline to end in one of the boating campsites.

The campground has a beautiful white sand beach. And there is a dedicated pet walking area, and a dog beach on the other side of the boat dock from the people-only beach.

There are clean restrooms with showers, and a dump station for your RV. The ranger at the station was friendly. There is a small store at the ranger station where we bought some ice.

5 stars, definitely.

The RV Park is conveniently located just a short drive from the zoo and the underground gardens, and the price was right. Our site had water, electrical (30 amp) and sewer. The electrical panel was on the opposite side of the water, so that was a bit unusual. Supposedly, the park fee also included wifi, but we were not given a code to access. The office was not staffed while we were there, so no one was available to ask about the code.

The park needs some TLC. Trees need to be trimmed; branches brushed the top of our RV as we drove through the park to our site. And there are lots of long-term residents with older RVs that have seen better days. The park itself was quiet, but it is located next to a major street and a highway, so we heard lots of road noise ALL NIGHT. And the park is not very secure, anyone can wander or drive in and out, and they did.

The community dump station (if you can call it that) was located in front of our site (#15). Luckily, no one used it while we were there. The photos on the website were a bit misleading; I was expecting something a little more lush. But, it served its purpose, so it gets 3 stars from me.
