$5 self-pay. Two lanes for dumping. There is also potable water at this location. I believe if you do potable water only it is free, but the ranger directed us to near site #7 in the campground for potable water for jugs. You can fill tanks with the potable water at the dump, but Site #7 is great for jugs only and is much faster! The rinse hose at the dump was not threaded so couldn't rinse, but great benefit to have a dump nearby for only $5 when you are not camping there.

We stayed here for 4 nights in early May 2019. We stayed in the Red Arroyo Campground at the South entrance of the park. The best thing about this park is the amount of space between spots. Plenty of space between you and your neighbors. The park is beautiful and very quiet. When we were there the wildflowers were in full bloom. Spots are water and electric only, but there is a dump onsite. We had spot #13 and it was steep, but we were able to tuck our 30ft trailer at the bottom where it leveled out. No levelers required. The park has many trails for hiking and biking. Some of the trails were a bit muddy, but they had recently had rain. Cell phone service was good. We were able to get internet through the hotspot. Overall, it was a nice stay and we would stay here again. $20 price reflects camping fee only. Day use fee is $4 per person if you do not have a Texas State Park Pass.

We love these cities that provide free dump and free potable water. What a great service and I bet they get that money back several times over with RVers spending money in the town for gas or other services. This dump station is right next to the Jack’s Travel Plaza gas station. There is a potable water spigot before the dump station and a rinse spigot at the dump station. The only negative is that there are several large potholes (especially if you get gas and then drive over) that need to be navigated to get there. Other than those it is an easy in and out.

We stayed a week and half in late June 2019. The camping areas are very easy to find and are directly off Lake Como Road which is off Hwy 150 (main road that leads to Great Sand Dunes NP). There is a BLM sign at the turn to the right. The GPS coordinates will take you to the correct area. There are several camping areas as you drive down the road. There are all on the left side. There is a large dip right after you turn and before the sign. Make sure you are going slow and you shouldn’t have any problems. The road is washboard sand and dirt but overall is not bad to drive down, especially if you go slow. I think any size rig would be fine to travel to the first three camping areas. Each camping area could probably fit 3-5 rigs and some tenters without being on top of each other. The first camping area is about ¼ mile down the road. Not a bad area, but it was a bit busier when we arrived (probably due to the proximity to the road). We went to the second area which is probably another ¼ mile down the road. That area was busy as well, but we liked it better (more grass than dirt). We setup camp in the back of the area and were able to get level without blocks! Most everyone else needed blocks, but they didn’t seem to have much problem leveling. As you continue down the road, its condition does worsen. Tenters and small vans have more options towards the mountain. We did see a decent size Airstream make it to the fourth pullout area, but we didn’t feel comfortable taking our 30 ft travel trailer past the second section. We did walk down to the third pullout and it was not as level or as big, so we were happy with our decision to stick to the second section. The road was a bit worse from areas #2-#3, but still probably doable for most rigs. After that it starts to get a bit rough, at least in our opinion. Cell reception was good, we had 2-3 bars 4G LTE on AT&T. We use hotspots for internet and have AT&T and Verizon and both worked well. No amenities at all so pack in and out. The area is about 20-25 minutes to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. We were able to get potable water there (at the dump station) and dump as we were leaving. They also have dumpsters we used to dispose of our trash (and the trash of inconsiderate tent campers who left over two bags of trash for us to collect for them). The town of Alamosa is about 30 minutes away and has places for groceries, propane, and anything else you may need during your stay. The camping areas have a wonderful view of Blanca Peak. If you are in better shape than we are, you can attempt the summit while there. There are no trees or any obstructions on any of the pullouts. Perfect for solar, but also no protection from wind and blowing sand. It was windy several times when we were there, and it will blow sand and dust in the RV. Nothing too bad but be aware. The weather was great until the last few days when the high was almost 90. Small rain events happen frequently in the afternoon, but they never last long and some don’t make it to the area, but you can see them in the distance. The area gets busy on the weekend, but during the week it slows down. Everyone was respectful and enjoyed the quiet. The biggest noise was the free-range cows in the morning making a raucous and using the RV as a back scratcher. They didn’t visit every morning but were there several times bright and early. Dark skies there. You can see the Milky Way with the naked eye. Overall, it was a great stay and we would stay again if ever back in the area.

This campsite is not open year-round. There is a gate near the turn-off that closes during the winter months. We stayed the first part of April 2018 and it was open. This was a great boondocking spot for us. We dumped and filled up our water at the Cortez City Industrial Park RV dump which was about 30 minutes away from this campsite. Recommended if you are coming from the West. There is also a free dump and water station at the Giant in Durango if you are coming from the East. The camping spot is very easy to get to and is right off Hwy 160. Very close to Mesa Verde National Park and Durango, Colorado. There were very few campers here, so it was quiet and peaceful. The dogs loved the grassy area and we did not have to worry about leashes with no campers anywhere near us. The spot was fairly level and we didn’t have any trouble with leveling blocks. It snowed one day while were we here with quite a bit of accumulation. Thankfully the temperatures did not stay cold, so the snow did not last long. At first the road coming in is wash-boarded, but if you go slow it is fine. The road does gets better as you drive down. They graded the road while we were here which made it a much nicer ride. We stayed about a mile down the road and saw around 6-7 spots in the immediate area with some off the side roads. The spots are huge and could fit any size RV. I wouldn’t recommend going much farther than our spot as there are only a few decent campsites further. The road does eventually get very bumpy several miles up. We saw very little traffic, so we did not mind being closer to the road. You don’t really get great views from this campsite as the trees block the nearby mountains, but there are other sites with better views. Our spot was in a nice open area so solar could do its magic. The AT&T cell signal when we arrived was good. We consistently got 3-4 bars LTE without boost. For some reason the last day we were here the cell connection went to crap and we only had about 1 bar. We were able to get 3-4 bars LTE on Verizon as well. We stayed 8 nights and would highly recommend.

We stayed here for 1.5 weeks in the first part of July 2019. Overall, it was a decent place to stay. I can’t say for sure if we would camp here again. If we did, I would try for a non-holiday weekend.

Road/Site Condition
Access was good. Road is paved until right when you get into the forest where it turns to dirt. About ¼ after it turns to dirt, there is a parking lot on the left for the ATVers to park and unload. Shortly past that on the right is a large clearing that could fit 3-4 rigs comfortably. It was a bit busy when we arrived early afternoon on a Sunday. We drove down a bit further and there was a nice clearing on the left (maybe another ¼ down the road). This is where we stayed. There was room for probably 3 rigs. We did walk the road one day about 1.5 miles and there were other spots here and there. Some of the land became private but everything was clearly marked. There were some big rigs back there, but we were glad we stopped at the second clearing. I would say overall there is room for about 15 rigs in the first 2 miles. Not sure about after that. We were able to find a decent spot for our solar and surprisingly was able to level without blocks. I wouldn’t say the area is great for those with solar. We were able to find one of the few spots that shade was not an issue. Some were better than ours but were taken. The shade isn’t horrible, so you might be able to get enough even with it, just depends on how your solar is setup. Because this is a popular area for ATVs, it can get a little loud and a dusty. We only had one person be disrespectful by doing donuts and kicking up dirt, dust and rocks about 10 feet from our RV. He did leave after we asked. A local that camps there frequently mentioned it was normally not that busy. This was likely to due to the holiday weekend. Other than the one guy, most were respectful of our space. As you would expect, at night, it calmed down and was quiet and serene. They also didn’t get too early of a start each morning, so thankful for that.

Scenery
Most of the immediate camping area is not scenic. Your views of the mountains are blocked by trees. There were a few spots down the road that seemed to have good views. But a short drive will take you to some great views of the area, which was beautiful.

Cell/Internet Access
Our cell phones are through AT&T and service was crappy. Sometimes even with the booster it would not work. No ability to make calls unless we used Wifi calling. We have both AT&T and Verizon hotspots. Without booster they worked OK, but we really needed to booster to be able to work from the RV. The further down the road, the less cell signal.

Amenity Access
No amenities here so pack in and out. Town of Woodland Park is about 20 minutes away and has gas, groceries, etc. Colorado Springs is about 45-50 minutes away and has more options. We filled our jugs for water at the county water station just down the street (about 5 minutes away) which was quite convenient. Water there is $1 for every 30 gallons if using a 20 ft hose (goes by time, not gallons). We dumped nearby at Golden Bell Camp & Conference Center for $15 but call first because they indicated they may not let people dump anymore unless they are staying at the campground. I believe depending on the direction you are heading, most RV campgrounds in the area will let you dump for a fee. For trash, we used various dumpsters at gas stations and trash receptacles at Walmart. Most of the dumpsters nearby had signs that prohibited public use.

This was not a free dump, but only cost $5 plus tax.  There was potable water at the dump as well which was free.  You must pay for the dump inside the gas station.  The dump is over to the right (if you are facing the gas station) by the mechanic shop.  If you find the spigot, you found the dump!  To access the dump, move the large, heavy red grate out of the way.  They have a hose for the potable water, but the worker did not recommend using it (could use it for rinse) so you should plan on bringing your own hose if you are filling tanks or jugs.  This is a one-stop shop for RVers.  In addition to the dump and potable water, they have bulk propane on-site for $3.06/gallon (as of May 2018), diesel fuel lanes, dumpsters and a weigh station.  It is about 2 miles from the interstate and there is little else in the area as far as services.  This was a great spot for us to hit after Moab on our way to Goblin Valley State Park.

The dump is right next to the car wash. You can pull in the other side of the gas station and pull around the back of the building to get a good angle on the dump. It is $5 for dump and there is free potable water. There is a dumpster too that doesn’t say it cannot be used by the public. Not much else to say about it. Easy in and out. We did see several gas stations in the area with RV dumps, so you have plenty of options.

Great dump station. Easy in and out with plenty of room. There is a donation box, so please donate so the city can continue to provide this awesome service. Separate connections for fresh and flush water. We couldn't flush because there was no connector which our pressurized system needs, but no worries. We were able to dump and fill up. Great service for boondockers in the area.

The dump is around the back of the gas station and is clearly marked. It is $5 to dump. We did not need to dump but did need potable water. I had to ask because it is not in an obvious spot. It is across the dump station to the left slightly right next to the building. There is a water spigot with a yellow handle among the pipes. It is a bit camouflaged so look carefully. The gentleman I spoke to said there was no charge for the water, so we filled up. We went back one other time and filled jugs with no problem. The area near the dump is a bit cramped so if there are several rigs back there I can see where that would be a problem. No one was back there when we were, so we had no trouble filling the rig. They also have nice RV lanes for fuel and sell bulk propane.
