We decided to come to Southern Hills on short notice because we cut our time short in the Badlands. While it would have been amazing to stay within the borders of Custer State Park, that wasn't possible due to the short notice. Our rate of $18.50 was due to Passport America -- such a steal! The sites are nice, super level pull throughs and the campground as a whole is very nice. The laundry and restroom facilities are clean. Besides being near Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse are nearby. Rapid City is 20-25 minutes away, which is where you should go to get groceries as the grocery store in Hermosa is small and a lot of the food is outdated. The location also worked great for us to pick our mail up in Box Elder. Cell service with AT&T and Verizon is good.

We stayed in a 27' Airstream.

We are a full timing couple in our late 30s without kids, so KOAs are never our first choice of places to stay. My husband had to travel to Minneapolis for work for a few days and the Billings airport, with its direct flight to MSP, was along our route. There aren't a lot of options in Billings, so we went with the KOA as opposed to the unknown Yellowstone River Campground just down the street.

We were pleasantly surprised when we pulled in at how nice this property is! Their website pictures are true to form -- nicely manicured, great little mini golf, decent size pool -- you name it. We paid $67.50, which is with the KOA member discount. We actually became KOA members when we booked this stay because it was cheaper for us to pay the $30 and get the 10% discount than it was for us not to. We didn't get the most expensive site, but we also didn't get the cheapest site. Ours had water and electric only, but also had a patio with picnic table, fire pit, and porch swing. It's a super long site that allowed us to park our truck on either end of our 28' Airstream.

We utilized many of the amenities during our stay. The bathrooms are so, so nice and we used them multiple times to shower seeing as we weren't hooked up to sewer. We played mini golf once and it's a nice little course, though $5 a pop is a little much. We ate breakfast once at the onsite Pistol Pete's BBQ and I think it was worthy of the $9.95 price. We sat by the pool a few times, but the water really is too cold to do anything but put your legs in. The store is also very nice with food and camping necessities as well as souvenirs that aren't cheesy.

I should note that we stayed here over the 4th of July holiday, from a Saturday to a Saturday (the 4th was on Wednesday). They always seemed to be busy but had a lot of turnover. We had many different neighbors on either side of us throughout the week. I don't know if that's normal or because of the holiday, but it seemed most people stayed for two nights max.

The KOA is in a GREAT location in regards to downtown Billings. You can be at a great restaurant in about 7 minutes. Two I recommend are Walkers and The Fieldhouse. Everything you could need is within a 10-15 minute drive -- grocery store, gas station, Target, hospital, vet clinic, museum, baseball, etc. Even the airport is only a 13-minute drive from the KOA!

There are two small things that I didn't care for:
1) There are cottonwood trees everywhere. It was great to have shade because of the heat, but this is the time of years they lose their 'cotton' so there was a fluffy white layer on everything. Ot of their control, I know, but annoying nonetheless.
2) Our utility hookups were so far into the site next to us and same with our neighbors utility hookups. (See picture.) My fear was that one of the many kids that occupied the neighboring site during the week would pull our electric cord and we'd lose A/C (we have a dog to worry about) and it almost happened. A little guy had his hands on the little door that flips open when his dad caught him and grabbed him.

In conclusion, great place to stay. If we were to ever pass through Billing again, I would definitely stay here.

P.S. I'm giving five stars on noise because most of the week it was fine. However, the night of the 4th, fireworks were going off until 12:30am, even though fireworks aren't allowed in the city of Billings. I don't know where they were being lit off (inside the KOA, outside the KOA), but it was very loud.

We stayed in a 27' Airstream.

We were supposed to stay for only two nights, but ended up staying three due to horrible wind in the area. We stayed April 12-15.

The Good:
The park itself is very nice and you can tell it's new. We had site 30, which is a very long pull through with full hookups. In addition to RV sites, there are also cottages to rent. The bathrooms/showers are nice. The laundry room is also nice, but only has two washers/dryers, so when it's busy, this could pose a problem. We got quite a few channels in over our antenna and we never had any issues with AT&T or Verizon cell signals. Check in is from 4-8, which isn't the most convenient, but we called earlier in the day (in order to book the third night) and they told us what site we were in and we could pull in whenever we needed to and pay later. There's a large city dog park that backs up to the edge of the RV park and there's a gate accessible from the RV Park. There's a nice park next door that has a somewhat sad looking little zoo. There's also a water park nearby.

The Bad:
I'm forever boggled by concrete slab sites not being completely level and this one was a little off. Besides being surrounded by the dog park, park, zoo, and water park, there's also a soccer field right next door. As in, people park in the RV park's parking lot and sit at their picnic tables to watch the games -- that's how close it is. The main issue with Fort Dodge, is it's not secure and it's surrounded by attractions that bring people right to it's doorstep. It'd be nice if there was a gate, so miscellaneous people can't drive right in. This must be an issue for them, because there's a sign on the door of the main building (office, restrooms, storm shelter, laundry room) that says 'No Public Restrooms'. The only problem is, there's not somebody onsite enough in order to enforce this. Whenever we're at a place that has nice showers, I usually take advantage of them to take a long shower, but I didn't feel safe here as anyone could have walked into the bathroom. We were the only ones in the park for a day and we felt so vulnerable.

Conclusion: The park itself is very nice, it's the immediate surroundings and lack of security that makes me dock a star. The reason we wouldn't stay here again is that there's not much to do in Dodge City.

We stayed in a 27' Airstream.

What a delightful find this place was! Zane Grey is a fairly small, incredibly clean, ridiculously cute RV park sitting amongst beautiful trees next to the West Clear Creek. Our site (#50) was incredibly level (yay!), large, and easily accessible.

Our rate reflects the monthly rate ($650) + monthly pet fee ($25). We stayed from 11/1/19-3/1/20.

After staying here for three weeks at the end of 2018, we determined it to be the best place to stay for a long stay in the San Diego area. The location is the absolute best for visiting all parts of San Diego and the price can't be beat.

As others have stated, it's a gravel parking lot (with some trees), surrounded by a fence. The sites are large squares which means you park your tow vehicle next to your trailer instead of at the end. Water and electric only, but a truck comes around three times a week to empty your tanks. Propane service comes around once a week if you need your tanks filled. Besides a dumpster, a recycle bin, and dog waste bag dispensers, there are no other amenities. If you're looking for full hookups, restrooms with showers, and laundry, the fairgrounds (which is basically across the street) has a number of RV sites, but again, nothing fancy.

Any stay longer than 3 weeks is considered long term. Long-term stays are almost treated like an apartment rental wherein a rental application needs to be filled out, including a $50 application fee. "Rent" is due by the 1st of every month and can be paid by check or money order and deposited in the on-site manager's mailbox.

This park is not a year-round park as it is closed to the public from around May 22nd to mid-September every year and is used by the Del Mar Fairgrounds during that time. The majority of the people that stay here stay all season and are San Diego residents. This typically means it's a quiet park; however, we spent the first month of our 4-month stay parked next to a very, very loud resident. We were able to move to a different site after the first month and it made all the difference in the world. (And that very, very loud resident was eventually kicked out, though not because of us.) There is traffic noise but it's not loud enough to keep you up at night.

There's not a whole lot within walking distance, but every amenity you could need is within a short drive, including a really nice laundromat, grocery stores, a post office, and a dog beach. You're right on the border of Del Mar and Solana Beach, and you'll find great restaurants, shops, breweries, etc in both cities, as well as the greater San Diego area. The airport and downtown San Diego is less than a 30-minute drive. Cell coverage is great on Verizon and AT&T.

NOTE: Electric is 30 amp only -- not 50.

Snow Canyon State Park was such a great surprise! It's this weird combination of sandstone rock, extinct volcanoes, sand dunes and lava fields, a mere 20 minutes from Saint George, UT, which is a gem all itself. The campground is small, with only 31 sites available. Fourteen have electric and water and four have electric only. The 14 with hookups are all pull-throughs, aligned in a row in the center of the campgrounds. They are tight, but their website informs you of this and warns you may not be able to use slides if you have them. Each site has a covered picnic table and grill. I believe the non-hookup sites also have fire pits.

The bathrooms (with soap, hand driers and flush toilets) were clean. The showers were decent but they're the kind where you have to pull a chain (and keep it pulled) for water -- I understand it's to conserve water but it makes showering a little more difficult. The park headquarters/visitor's center is small with a few souvenirs and a number of books for purchase. If you have any questions about how to access certain trails or points of interest, be sure to stop in -- they have additional maps besides the regular park maps. My favorite trail was Johnson Canyon, but it's only open seasonly. There's a great paved trail that runs north to south through the park that's great for walking, running or biking. It's also one of only two trails that allows dogs, so not as dog-friendly here as other state parks.

The city of St. George is a quick 20-minute drive and at a population of 82,000+, they have any service you could need, including an airport. Zion National Park is about an hour and fifteen minute drive.

The only drawbacks Snow Canyon has is that check in time isn't until 3pm (and if you're coming from NV like us, don't forget about the time change) and the sites are too close. If we stay there again, we'll choose one of the electric only sites of 15a or 15b that have more space and privacy and better views.

Cell signals were good on AT&T and Verizon with our WeBoost cell booster. We stayed in a 27' Airstream.

As others have stated, this property became a KOA at the beginning of the 2019 season. However, it's currently a KOA in name only -- even their maps still say Lincoln Road RV Park. It lacks the amenities you'd expect from a KOA: No tent sites, no cabins, no fenced dog area, no cable TV, dated restrooms. None of those things are important to us, so we didn't miss them, but they should be charging less until those things are in place. Our price reflects 10% discount with KOA membership.

That being said, the property is very clean and well maintained. The sites are level, long, and gravel with a concrete patio, picnic table, and really nice grass. Those that have stated it's a gravel parking lot are exaggerating a bit -- we've stayed in an actual gravel parking lot and this is not that. The employees are all very nice and helpful. The wifi works pretty good, which is a bonus seeing as we had terrible cell reception, even with a booster -- good enough to make calls and texts, but was intermittently dependable for anything more than that. There's a gas station/market a block up the road that has a deli counter and is sufficient for necessities. Location is great -- very close to I-15 and you can get anywhere in Helena in about 15 minutes. Laundry worked great and we were able to fill our propane. Helena is a great city to visit and we felt safe staying here and leaving our trailer to explore.

If we were to pass through Helena again, we would stay here.

We stayed in site 10 for two nights in mid-September 2020, which was a large, paved, level site with water and electric hookups. They have a midweek rate August-October, so we only paid $15/night for each night we stayed -- so worth it! Most of the sites are very large and some are waterfront, which is easily discernible on the campground map. Seeing as we're self contained, I didn't check out the bathrooms. There is a camp host onsite, referred to as the 'caretaker', but they didn't seem to be around while we were there. There is firewood for sale onsite, though a nearby gas station has a much better deal. The dump station is in good condition and easily accessible.

The sites have so much space here! Even when the campground was almost full, which it was the second night, we never felt like we were too close to anyone. Seeing as this is a county park right on the bay, there is a boat launch area that is probably pretty busy during warmer months. There's a nice little protected cove area as well as a jetty from which to fish. There's a playground in the campground and a basketball court and fish cleaning station by the parking area for the boat trailer parking. During our stay, the leaves were just starting to change color, so the park looked even nicer. The only drawback to this campground is that the sign posts with the campsite number that are on the sites on the inner part of the loop get in the way of backing into the site. We're pros at backing up, but struggled with this site and noticed a few other people did too.

We stayed in a 27' Airstream.

There's not much happening in Garryowen, Montana, but if you find yourself in the area and need a place to stay -- this is the place. It's a little weird getting to it from I-90 as it's on a frontage road that's only reachable by another frontage road, but there are signs to direct you. It's a well-maintained property with nice bathroom and laundry facilities. All the sites are pull throughs and are a mix of water & electricity and full hookups. We showed up a little early and were given a little bit of a hard time, but they did let us check in because our site was vacant. This wouldn't always be the case, though, as check in and check out are both at noon. There isn't much in the way of services in the area except for a gas station, so make sure you have everything you need. Definitely make sure you visit Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument while here.

We have a WeBoost, but cell service was for both AT&T and Verizon were fine without it.

Bunker Hills Campground is within Bunker Hills Regional Park in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. We stayed here a little short of a week so that we could visit a customer in the neighboring city of Anoka. The park had a really great feeling about it — the light always seemed magical, we ran into deer and turkey on a regular basis, and it has a really great trail system. The campground itself has restrooms with showers, which were pretty decent, even if there’s no temperature control and the water pressure could be a tad bit better. The sites are large and private with picnic tables and fire rings. There are three loops — one with 30 amp/water hookups (where we stayed), one with 50 amp/water hookups, and one with more 50 amp sites, tent sites and a couple of cabins. There is also a visitor’s center right as you enter the campground with a dump station nearby.

The park the campground is located in also has a lot to offer: A nice, paved trail system; golf course with restaurant (good food); playgrounds; picnic pavilions; restrooms; horse stables; archery range; disc golf course; and water park, which didn’t open until the day we left.

The nightly rate is $28, which is reasonable, but there was an $8 reservation fee as well as a daily access fee of $6 (or $30 for an annual pass), so if you aren’t staying long, it might not be very cost effective.
