We arrived around 6pm and the camp host was able to accommodate us in an overflow site that even had electrical. The campground grounds were well kept there was a view of the lake from most of the sites. The builds could use some attention and updating.

This campground is located in the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest, which covers a large area, has many campgrounds and hiking/biking trails. We picked this campground do to it being more remote than most of the others in the area and the large amount of hiking trails in the area. Although it was the most remote it was still only about 15 minutes from three towns of which Boulder Junction was our favorite. You have to travel down a gravel road for about 2 miles to get to the campground, but the campground roads were all paved, which we like because it cuts down on the dust. There are 43 sites in this campground with about 15 right next to the lake. The lake is restricted to electric motors or hand paddles only which keeps it quite. We stayed in site 1304,1305,1306 and 1344, 1340 which are all sites next to the lake with great views. We think 1305 and 1304 are the best sites in the campground. Most of the sites were the most private ones we saw yet, due to the woods between them. All sites were first come first serve, have no electric for water hook up. The campground had dumpsters, band new pit toilets and hand pumps, for water. Crystal Lake, which was about 5 miles away had water and three dump stations. The camp hosts are great.

I did fish a few times on Starrett, Frank and Escanaba lakes and caught enough Northern for a meal one night. The water was nice and warn, so the dogs and I were able to go for a swim. The bottom of the lake was sandy. There are tons of trails in the area, our favorite were the Escanaba trails which have four loops ranging from 5-8 miles. We hiked about 35 miles of trails with the dogs, which were able to run off leash.

So far this is our second favorite campsite with Two Medicine in Glacier National Park being number one.

We stayed here while traveling to CO if was a short distance off of the I 80, but our GPS took us down gravel roads when coming in from the east. When we left we went west and the roads were all paved to the I 80. We could not hear the highway at all, but it was hot so we had our camper air conditioner running. There are many sites right next to the lake. Many of the sites had electric.

We stayed here for the opening weekend of fishing season. We were the only ones in the loop we were in. The campground was spread out with much space between sites many of which were next to the lake. Our camp site even had its own spot to tie the boat up. Our site was also very large and had no problems at all fitting the two trucks, camper and boat trailer. The weather was nice for this time of year although the water was still cold which seemed to effect the fishing.

We stayed here a second time in July. Our site this time was 11a, which is a huge site and is secluded. We could walk down to the water right from our site. The only draw back of this site is that it was close to one of the boat landings to there was some noise.

The campground is between two lakes Owen and Bass. Owen is large and can have motors the Bass is small which you can not have a wake. Both have boat landings. They rent canoes, paddle boats and kayaks.

If you stay here one must is to go to the Delta Dinner, which is in Delta about a 15 minute drive north of the campground. The food is outstanding.

We camped there with a group of friends who were from the area. They camp there often and most of the people in the campground were locals. Most of the campsites were on the water. There were pit toilets and hand water pumps. The lake is smaller but does allow motors and has a nice sand beach swimming area.

This was an okay stop over right off the highway exit, so that meant it was loud. Had an area for the dog to run.

While researching for our trip we found that this campground was rated as having one of the best views in the state, so it was a must for me. The road from Pagosa Springs to the campground is 23 miles long and mostly gravel, which they were grading on our way in. The campground is small with about 14 sites, which were spread out. The views from our site was outstanding. There are pit toilets which were clean. The host was nice.

We hiked the Williams Creek Trail, which was also nice, but is also heavily used by horses as well.

It rained quite a bit while we were there so the roads were pretty much all mud on the way out. It took $20 at the spray and wash in Pagosa Springs to get the mud off our truck and camper, just so it was usable the rest of the week.

We stayed here one night while on a trip to check out the area. We arrived later in the day to find a site overlooking the water. The site was smaller and just okay. The lake looked nice and the privacy was good. I was hoping to check out more of Voyageurs National park, but it seems like you have to boat to the island to do that.

This is a very nice area to camp in. There are many campgrounds in the area connected by a paved bike path including near by towns. There is a dump station and water across the road at Crystal campground. Our camp site was on the lake. There is a nice path around the lake. There are many good hiking trails in the area as well. Our site was a double site that was huge. There are no hookups but you can run a generator for several hours during the day.
