There are lots of trees, so solar wasn't great. We did run our generator to keep topped up, but that's why we have it. Its also northern Minnesota (mosquitoes) so we were grateful for our screened bug net to put over the picnic table. Walking along the shore of lake Kabetogama was beautiful, and we rented canoes at Arrowhead Lodge & Resort to go explore the water. Tons of small islands (camp spots out there too if you are brave) to explore and a small beach that the kids loved to play at down at the day use area.
Road is pretty tight so I wouldn't take a huge rig in here, but our 27' Airstream did just fine.
We had great signal with our cell booster - up to more like 3 or 4 bars Verizon LTE.

We came here to be close to Voyageurs National Park. It's one of the few public campgrounds on the shores of Lake Kebetogama, and an excellent location if you want to explore the lake. There's an easy access boat ramp, and plenty of places to rent kayaks or canoes if you don't have your own.
The campground is very rustic (and very affordable) with no hook-ups and no showers, but the sites are fairly large with lots of trees for privacy. While some of the sites are big, larger RVs should use caution when driving around the narrow roads with a few tight turns. They don't take reservations, but during our stay there was always plenty of open sites.
Be sure to bring bug spray as the mosquito here are plentiful!
Also, with our cell booster we got 4 bars of both Verizon and AT&T.

This is a large and very nice campground. Unless you have a boat to take you and your camping gear to a campsite in Voyageurs this is a nice place to stay.

We stayed here one night while on a trip to check out the area. We arrived later in the day to find a site overlooking the water. The site was smaller and just okay. The lake looked nice and the privacy was good. I was hoping to check out more of Voyageurs National park, but it seems like you have to boat to the island to do that.

Park road was narrow and gravel. No big rigs for this campground. We managed fine in the 25” class c we were in with toad on dolly. No reservations taken. Sites ranged in size. Many smaller sites and not level. Plenty of open sites. Vault toilets. Not sure of their condition since we were self contained. Bugs were bad. We stayed here on the way to do a backcountry canoe trip At Voyageurs.

We prefer to boondock but couldn't find anything suitable so we stayed at Wooden Frog. It's a first come first serve campground but if you come early in the week you will have no problems finding a site. Weekends there is space but may be limited access for larger rigs. we have a 35' 5th Wheel. Sites are grass and not level so be sure to bring blocks to get your rig level. Site #2 had great sunlight so we were able to use our solar to charge our batteries. There are many who use generators but it is quiet at night. There are trails around lake and lots of fisherman and boats on the lake during the day. Campground is close to Voyagers National Forest.

We only stayed here for one night, we used it to explore Voyageurs. We stayed for one night—midweek. Over half of the spots were available. There is a nice swimming spot in the public use area and there are public docks in the campground area for campers use only.
None of us used the outhouse, so I can’t comment on the state of them.
Our site was very level, we didn’t have to use anything to level out our rig. It was a very quiet night, you see can tons of stars on a cloudless night. I regret not being able to spend more time there.

Right on the lake (Kabetogama) and near Voyagers national Park. CG is a good value with plenty of shade and being close to the lake keeps it cooler. It’s first come first serve but there were plenty of spots available on a Thursday morning in mid July.

What I appreciate most about this, and other MN state forest campgrounds, is that they allow you to pay with a credit card (still in the iron ranger, you just write your info down on the fee envelope.)
I mean, tangled cottonwoods and birch, sumac and these adorable cartoonish squirrels running through it all isn’t bad. A nice big campground loop, some sites spread way out (and others absolutely not) and the immediate access to both a canoe put in, bigger boat access and cute little beach helped, too. Oh and the sunsets. Every night, without fail. That stuff was okay. But the ability to pay by credit card when you don’t have exact change, at an iron ranger!?!?!
I take that as proof that humankind has a chance on this planet.
We snagged site #4, the best in the park in my kittens worth of opinions, despite rolling in on a Saturday morning in August. There were maybe 5 other open spots of the 59 in the campground. Weekdays cleared out like shelves on a K-Mart closing sale.
I was able to build parts of the Internet, stream a sad but true movie about a gorilla who could draw and upload photos to Instagram with the Verizon service.
Arrowhead Lodge, 1 minute from the campground entrance, rents canoes and pontoons (the latter for a minimum of a week at a time though) and the lake is fantastic. If you get out into it, look for the rope swing on the island in Echo Bay.
If it weren’t for the credit card jubilation in my soul, I may have also appreciated seeing a red fox near the front of the campground, too.

Happened upon this jewel on a whim. We squeezed into site 49, then discovered a couple more further along the loop that would have worked better for us - Lesson ---- do not grab the first one you come to... you can always come back around. As it was, this site was actually beautiful - fairly level - wicked private. We only stayed one night and did not require the use of any of the facilities. For us, the beauty of the forest - the fabulous night sky and the absolute quiet was the BEST. Will definitely come back and stay longer next time.
