The sites here are spread out along a dusty, washboard road that turns rocky and rougher the further up you go. A side road or two offers the opportunity to camp further out in the brush. Due to the prevailing winds, best to use sites on the W. side of the road to avoid dust raised by passing campers.

Sites were pull through and decent. Quiet enough give the location near the interstate and no issues with long term residents. Good WiFi and clean restrooms. Not sure why I paid more than previous reviewers, but I reserved a site online and it seemed to go through a 3rd party.

This was the most expensive place I stayed on a trip between New England and N. Carolina. It’s open year round and just off the Interstate. Helpful staff, well kept bathroom facilities and laundry. Good WiFi.

Made a last minute overnight reservation on a March Sunday. Plenty of spaces available. $28 for electric & water at site 32 by the lake. Close together sites but fine for a quick stopover. Bathrooms were ok, didn’t try the showers. Trails along the lake. Friendly staff.

This city park campground is just off the highway in an open area by the water. Some sites have concrete pads, others are dirt and subject to the weather. There are electric, water and sewer hookups. It would be excessively charitable to call the restrooms “rustic”. These doorless facilities were outdated and unclean. I didn’t check out the showers. The host is a nice man.

Have boondocked here on 2 occasions and at most there has been one other site occupied. The last few miles in are dirt and can be washboard-y. Campground has water and well-maintained vault toilets. Sites are open with a few scattered trees. The three small ponds nearby seem
popular with locals. There are some trails and for those into gravel biking some nice roads to ride.

The height and width of the old RR tunnel that is the entrance to this campground will be the limiting factor for anyone driving or pulling a camper - another reviewer posted that the tunnel heigh is 10’3”. The bathroom facilities consist of Port-o-lets, which were clean. There is non-potable water. No other amenities. Sites are mostly close together and open. The main attraction here is the C&O Canal Towpath for biking. Trains rumble past nearby regularly.

This is an easily accessible campground from I-26. The sites are under the trees and close together, but there were only a few campers during the week in late March. I have a small camper but it seemed navigable for larger rigs. Vault toilets were very clean and well maintained. I found the reservation system confusing and it didn’t appear there were any first come first serve sites, although I may have misunderstood. Had to drive back to the interstate to get enough cell service to reserve online. I ended up paying more than the posted fee, maybe because I inadvertently reserved an equestrian site? Posted fee was $5 without any discounts.

The campground is small and the sites, while paved and level with electric and water, are quite close together. The restrooms and showers are well maintained and the state park folks are nice as can be. The real attraction here is the trails and the caves. Lots of fun to explore!
