Somewhat off the beaten path and far away from the highway , you will catch a glimpse Natural Arch. If you are young and is good shape, which we aren't, you might be able to hike into the wilderness to explore the arch. We saw a young family playing under the arch. Oh, to be 10 years younger and a 100 lbs lighter!

Great piece of history and museum. Visited three years ago when (1) I was 25 lbs lighter, (2) had two fewer heart attacks, (3) our puppy could join us and (4) we didn't know what we were in for. My wife and puppy stopped half way but I trudged on with two cameras, several lenses and a tripod. Beautiful views of the the canyon and dwellings. Could have stayed all day, and almost did because the trip back up was more strenuous than I anticipated and people coming down kept asking if I was alright because a lady and a dog were worried and wanted to make sure I was all right. I made it back and am glad I went. This trip, however, I remained at the park offices and museum.

We stayed in the campground and found the facility excellent. However, beyond the beauty of the lake there is little more here than a summer recreational community with few quality restaurants and services. The term "sandy" beaches should be replaced with rocky and muddy beaches for much of the lakeshore. But we are not into beach activities.

The free tour of this beautifully crafted Tabernacle is well worth ones time. There is so much history of the Mormons who settled the area after crossing the plains and mountains to be learned during this tour as well as the architectural accomplishments that have withstood the tests of time and weather.

We caught a break and got in free but it would have been well worth the admission price. This is a massive undertaking by one man and his family. While the Sioux leadership participated in the initial planning and vision, I am not sure how involved they are at this point as the work on the monument and operation of the memorial is dominated by the artist's family. Still, it is a must stop. The art and displays are great; the shops full of original crafts; the restaurant has good food at reasonable prices. Most important, the view of the monument is wonderful and the visioning process then and in the future is laid out and brings the monument into clearer focus.

Fascinating journey through the Black Mountains. Encountered buffalo, antelope and white-tailed deer along the route. There were amazing views of Mt Rushmore through the tunnels carved in the mountain. First time we had experienced cork-screw turns.

While interesting there is little signage to tell you what you are seeing and their significance. Probably should have taken a paid tour instead of wandering around be ourselves. The country store is worth a stop as they make their own jams and jellies on site.

One must be part of ranger led tour to see the caverns. Probably the smartest way to enjoy the caverns and geological structures. Our Ranger was knowledgeable and entertaining. Made the tour enjoyable.

This is one of the cleanest and best run camp grounds we have encountered. All of the sites are pull-through and offer full hook-up. The sites are level and well maintained. They offer Good SAMs discounts and can connect you to services that you might need.
