This place is THE place to stay in Albuquerque. It’s close to many restaurants, bars, things to do, and shopping. I had a full hookup site with its own little landscaped patio area. They are doing some construction work to build more spots, but it’s only done during the day on weekdays so it’s not disturbing.
I like the fact that it’s gated but you can come and go 24/7. Yes, the majority of the site is a RV storage place, but they offer so much. You can refill propane, wash your RV in their wash bay, use their shower room, get free bags of ice, add air to your tires, and enjoy complimentary coffee. They even offer leveling blocks if needed.
The staff here provide great customer service and are very friendly. I will be back.

I boondocked here in my 20’ travel trailer in October. You pay at the GRDA office down the road. They allowed me to fill my water tank there, and I found out Sparrow Hawk Campground allows free dumping. I wouldn’t recommend anything much over 20-25’ in length. Pull past the restrooms and back in. I had enough Verizon service to be able to work remotely. The night sky was great! Close enough to town for trips for supplies or dining out.

This is down a gravel logging road, and you do have to drive through a small concrete low-water crossing, but the stream didn’t even come up to my rims.
Winding one lane road, a couple hills, but traffic is almost nonexistent.

The spot itself is a nice clearing in the pine trees near an intersection. The Ouachita Trail also crosses a few yards away. Due to the size of the clearing and the angle of trees you have to back in through, I wouldn’t recommend anything much larger than 25 feet.

There’s a rock fire ring. The spot isn’t level, so make sure to bring leveling blocks. I stayed here several days and loved it. There is ample Verizon signal. I normally for around 12Mb down/15Mb up. The wind through the trees is very relaxing. I had enough sun that power wasn’t really a concern, even after a couple cloudy days.

I saw maybe one or two vehicles pass per day and the largest animal seen was a turkey. I will definitely come back here.

I was boondocking nearby and went to check this site as an alternative. I found out the gate is closed from March 1-August 1.

I stayed here from a Wednesday night to Saturday morning in March and had a good experience. I parked my 20 foot travel trailer in a pull-through spot far from the boat ramp. I enjoyed how secluded it was, although I could still barely hear I-40. There were occasionally people that drove through both at night and during the day, but no one ever bothered me and a local Game & Fish officer I spoke with said it’s a safe area. The road wasn’t bad, although it’s mostly gravel.
As for the spot, there was enough sun to keep my batteries charged. Nice view of the bayou and river. I only saw birds and bats, but no raccoons or other animals.
The nearby Love’s truck stop is a good spot to fill fresh tanks and dump grey/black.

I called last minute after a reservation at another place fell through. They were able to put me in a pull through spot. Check in was quick and they offered me a guide of things to do in town and a map of the campground. The power, water, and sewer worked great; well worth the $45 a night. Trash cans were available nearby and my site came with two chairs and a picnic table by the playground. I didn’t check out the laundry room or bathhouse. There are restaurants and a Walmart nearby. Overall, I’d stay there again.

It has plenty of sites by the river and the water pressure is good. You’re not packed together closely. When I stayed it was quiet and no bad smells. The camp host was friendly.

I chose to take a break from my travel day here. I registered and paid online, and checked in after the office closed. I found my site past all the other loops, on a gravel hillside with two other campers and the camp host. I’m glad I have a bigger leveling ramp because I needed it. Water and electric worked great, and I liked the little picnic table shelter at each site. Caution: there are a lot of speed bumps in this park.

I considered boondocking on the lake but couldn’t find anything online about generators. I did see a sign after I arrived that said generators are allowed in the boondocking area until 10pm.

Overall, not a bad campground at all, especially for $18 a night.
