We concur with the simple description of the campground. The management is helpful in a laid back way. The free use of boats and canoes is for the brave of heart because you just know there are going to be alligators nearby. In fact, this was at once the most picturesque campground of our extended trip, but when the darkness came it was also the noisiest. There are so many nocturnal species nearby that the cacophony kept us from staying a second night. Guess we are more "city slicker" as we get older. Lastly, about half of the sites are permanent cabins privately owned so there was a strong feeling of infringing on the neighbors.
Easily the cleanest and most well organized RV park of our many-state trip. Everything they describe in their narrative is true. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay.
We concur that this site is more impressive than Old Faithful, especially during the spring runoff!
Pluses - easy on off to freeway, friendly and caring staff, all the promised amenities. Down side - the sites for RV's (ours is 32') are a bit scary to get into and out of because the growth brushes the sides of your RV at nearly every turn, recent rains have created very large potholes and gullies in the roadways, and the entries to the RV sites are at weird angles so that if your gear is not strongly tied down you are going to dump a lot of it. At least three of the wooden picnic tables at our site and adjacent sites were dry-rotted and falling apart. Lastly, the nearby Jefferson Davis highway provides a lot of noise late into the night. We are in our third day of a week long stay and it has been the same every night. We hope some of these details can be attended to in the near future because the pluses outweigh the negatives and could dramatically improve the overall campground experience. However, because there are so many Marine Corps folks and their visiting families/friends wanting easy access to the Quantico Base nearby the place is packed anyway. With that "captive audience" there isn't much incentive to improve or change the campground.
Everything they list is correct, including a very fine pool for the kids, golf carts to rent to get around their massive campground and amenities, and clean showers with good water volume. On the down side, the hours of operation are very short (store and other features open fairly late [9-10 am] and close early [7 pm] even on the long summer days. Further, the noise from the nearby heavy volume highway is incessant. We had arrived expecting an entirely different experience. For those that stay more than one night these may not be a big deal, but for our short term RV stay it was quite inconvenient.
This was a very interesting RV site (in a positive way). They had just suffered a major storm but still managed to keep everything upbeat and efficient. The sites are fairly close to one another, yet it was a great place for easy in and out of the campground.
Best of all the KOA's of our super long trip. And best service award goes to KOA Ken!! The pool was perfect. The range of amenities was fantastic. Showers were a tad small but the warmth made up for that. Our four granddaughters all give a perfect score (ages 14-9). Easy access to the camp with full services and close to nearby communities for any unexpected needs. Loved everything about the camp.
Wish we had more time to spend here than just one evening.
Plus - friendly, courteous and efficient management. It is a quiet RV park with fireflies. As noted in the description of the RV park, there are nearby services. Minuses, the leechfield restrictions mean no grassy place for kids to play, the lake is off limits to swimming and WIFI service is almost non-existent due to 10mb access.
The site is perfect in that it is at the north entrance to Yellowstone, and is at the end of a very gentle ride from I-90. Since it is on a bluff overlooking Gardiner, Montana there is a picturesque view, easy access to some shopping, and tons of activities nearby. The RV park itself is well run and maintained. It does run full most of the park season so reservations are a must. Was worth the few extra dollars to have a jump on the day because we where able to do the circumnavigation of Yellowstone Park in a single day.
