I arrived on University of Wyoming homecoming game day and was worried that an open spot in highly rated dispersed camping was a long shot. In short time, I found a gorgeous spot on top of the hill with sunset view toward Laramie and could see the lights of Cheyenne to the east after nightfall. Aspens were changing to striking gold among the pines. With the exception of a pair of hikers and some cowboys doing fall roundup (awesome to see), we had loads of privacy. Will definitely visit again!

This was a great campground; pretty, and quiet despite being walking distance to town. The welcome at check-in was friendly and very informative. And the town donkeys came to visit! We'll definitely return.

Large pull-through sites are easy access and well spaced, but as I had a whole branch of the point to myself, spacing wasn't an issue. The site was very clean and sunset was a show of fiery colors over the plains. Because of the water, mosquitoes were abundant but the wind helped keep them from biting much. Wildlife was abundant. I stopped overnight between visits to Sand Creek Massacre site and Bent's Old Fort, so can't speak to the fishing, but heard coyotes and foxes singing through the night and woke to meadowlark song.

My camping spot (site 31) was a shady slot in a stand of lodge pole pine. The shade kept my teardrop a comfortable temperature during summer heat, but I needed to plan a bit more for solar panel efficiency. Trees provided privacy, that relaxing "shushing" sound in a breeze and shelter from wind. There was a marshy spot at the center of the campground loop that probably contributed to mosquito population, but they were not overwhelming with incense and repellant. This place was walking distance to Turquoise Lake and a short drive to Leadville. Will visit again.

Pinon Flats is a beautiful campground that's fit in well to the scenery. Site 140 has an outstanding view of the dunes and one can watch the light change as the sun sets behind them. Backing in my trailer was tricky with the odd angle and narrow, one- way road, but I got lucky and was able to do it alone despite being new to the process. Magnificent star show is the spectacle after dark in this dark sky park. The campground was busy, but didn't feel crowded. Wildlife was abundant- bear boxes provided.

I wandered here without reservation and was lucky to get a place in this small, pretty campground with the North Platte River in front and golf course behind. Big cottonwood trees provided good shade. The staff was super nice.
