We don’t ride horses so I can’t comment on that aspect.

We ride side by sides and used True West as a spot to ride Pickett. This place is wonderful!! From our arrival the owners were so wonderful. They were the most hospitable and friendly folks I ever met. We stayed in the Miners Shack. It was spotless. The beds were comfy. It was great to have a toilet! The cabin was so private but still close to the restrooms.

The owners introduced us to all of their pets, to include the horses, cats, and dogs.

There is a great common area that our group used to cook dinner and hang out. They sell firewood so we were able to have a big fire and invite the other campers.

The shower houses were brand new and spotless. They even provide a sign in the bath house to call the owners if you have any issues.

The Big South Fork area is absolutely spectacular. Regardless if you ride horses, off road vehicles, hike, kayak, or even star gaze; True West is the perfect place.

The Wi-Fi is great all around the grounds.

Staying at True West really makes you feel like you are at home as they welcome everyone as family!

Riding Pickett was AMAZING!! We will be back!!

This park was amazingly clean. The owner was more than helpful. We were in town for some camper repairs and he sent us to the right places!! Easy acces off the AK highway. They even have a car/camper wash station! A little toad noise but not much considering it was right on the highway.

I probably shouldn’t be allowed to write reviews on KOAs as I hate staying in them. Sometimes when it’s late and you are tired they are easy to access. This KOA is certainly overpriced. A train runs by about every 2-3 hours. There is a field of garbage next to our site. The host was super nice. There is a camp store packed with a bunch of cute stuff that I don’t need. Next time I’ll push through to a state park or free site.

We don’t normally stay at private campgrounds as they usually pack you in like sardines! This place was perfect for us. If you prefer a quiet location with privacy and fishing right from your rig, this is the place. We had planned on camping for free on Bolivar Flats, but with the red flag conditions, heavy winds and extremely high tides we opted for an inland option. There was no one in the office so a local guy called some guy named Leon for us and we got site 5. What an amazing surprise! So private, quiet and catch fish for hours one right after the other. If you like fancy campgrounds with pools and tons of amenities, this isn’t the place for you!

This little campground was a surprise find for us. We were looking for somewhere that we could watch the sunset and our dog could play in the water. This campground has less than 40 sites and is very quiet. It’s a fisherman’s haven. We were lucky enough to snag a site right on the water. We spent our days across the street (you have to drive) at the beach and evenings watching the sunsets. Our site has full hookups. The bath house was very clean and the washers/dryers were free. There is plenty of open space to play with your puppies! At night it was so quiet you could hear the fish jumping!

As a stop over campground for us we were pleasantly surprised at how clean this park was. We arrived much later than anticipated and really didn’t want to unwinterize that late so we decided to use the bath house instead. It was immaculate. There were lots of places to walk and play with our dog. They were decorated for Christmas and felt very welcoming. Even though it’s less than a half a mile from 75, the traffic noise was minimal. We came in late and left early but we will certainly utilize this campground in the future.

This campground was a bit of a surprise to us. It was much nicer than we expected. This side of Hickory Point campground was quiet. The other side seemed a little crowded and loud. There was only 2 showers. If you aren’t self-supportive there may be a wait for showers in the busy season. It was a little difficult to get to, but we were coming in from the North.

The location is nice. It’s right across the street from the beach and has a crosswalk bridge over the main road. It also had direct access to the TART for biking into downtown. The sites are shaded. It is very large with lots of people. The worst part of the entire experience was leaving! Two dump stations for over 300 campsites. If you happen to be one of the unlucky people camping on the exit road to the dump station plan to add 30-45 minutes to your departure time. It’s a terrible setup for exiting.
