Free camping. Though no pull through sites there is plenty of room to turn around. Each site has a fire pit some even have space then large rocks so you can’t drive back further, but there is more space for tents and most times another fire pit. Loads of cool hiking near by for free. Close enough to towns and stores.
This is a must stop! Diamond beach has icebergs that wash up on the shore for stunning photos (go at sunset or sunrise) you can walk under the bridge (keep an eye out for wild seals!) Keep going under the bridge and you will arrive at Blue Lagoon ( our favorite part of Iceland!) It has huge blue glaciers mixed with lava rock that will literally make you cry! If you have time book a tour with Artic Adventures (they pick you up at Blue Lagoon) for a glacier tour…Another must!
Cute little church at the top of the hill you can’t miss it. While you are in town you should eat/stock up on anything you won’t see another town for a while.
We went during winter, so it was very windy and no puffins (they only come to land about 3 months of the year, so the odds are small) . The black sand is gorgeous, but the waves are huge. The ‘rock wall’ is very cool and I like anything I have ever seen! According to local Icelandic folklore, these large basalt columns were once trolls trying to pull ships from the ocean to shore. However, these trolls were dim and went out too late in the night; dawn broke on the horizon, turning the trolls into solid stone.
I wouldn't drive out of my way for this, but if you are in the area it is neat and free. It is connected to a city park that has trails perfect for skating, biking, and walking along the water front, a playground, and field area for sports, and even a dock to walk down. Close to downtown Kissimmee where you can wonder the small downtown area and look at the murals and shops.
It hasn't updated in over 11 years. It is worn down and quite expensive.
1.3 mile hike is worth it. And please don't touch the prayer clothes.
