We went during winter, so it was very windy and no puffins (they only come to land about 3 months of the year, so the odds are small) . The black sand is gorgeous, but the waves are huge. The ‘rock wall’ is very cool and I like anything I have ever seen! According to local Icelandic folklore, these large basalt columns were once trolls trying to pull ships from the ocean to shore. However, these trolls were dim and went out too late in the night; dawn broke on the horizon, turning the trolls into solid stone.
