A quick worthwhile stop. It’s just a silo that someone has painted, but is the perfect place for anyone who loves things larger than life. There’s an easy to miss driveway just before the roundabout turn.
I looked for this stop today and didn’t find it. I’m wondering if it’s come down since the last Roadtripper stopped by.
***HOPE GALLERY MOVING! It has been in progress for the past several years, but the gallery is moving closer to the airport. I know that an art event is scheduled for sometime soon. As far as I have seen, the original location is still standing, but is barricaded off and is scheduled for demolition to create condos. If you do get a chance to check it out prior to it's loss, grab a drink at the Tavern on 12th and Lamar. If you like haunted history, check out their seasonal drink menu that is named after the resident spirits and find out about the history by taking a Haunted ATX tour!
My husband and I had a great time visiting this weekend with our dog. Great hiking and it was nice to get in the water near Devil’s watering hole. We were fascinated by the geological formations around the area and we were glad to see a large turnout for one of the rangers programs that was starting as we headed out for the evening. We hope to camp next time we come back and look forward to seeing the primitive sites further.
It is always cool to see classic roadside features. This place is a junk yard with many cars and the muffler man is visible from the road and is a quick pull off. Visit if you’re a lover of these statues, but don’t expect any further features.
My husband and I couldn’t help but to visit such a well-known feature of a roadside attraction. There is not really anything there other than Pinkie and a gas station. There are some signs featuring some notes on the history of Pinkie and there’s some cute souvenirs inside. While in De Forest, check out Sissy the cow as well!
