Firstly, let me say that when we pulled out the next morning there were 2 more right turns about 50 yards further heading north that looked like possibilities for bigger rigs but not the one we pulled onto. We set up camp right at the road and walked in about a mile. The road was fine, loose pebbles and the tracks were so worn that the center of the road was high enough to scrape all but the highest clearance RVs. Definitely scope it out before committing to drive into this area. My advice, drive a few more miles into Baker for the night.

I thought for sure I had missed the cost when I saw the level gravel sites, picnic tables, fire rings, and pit toilet. There is no water, electric or WiFi but it's free so what do you expect, but get this, there are two sites with fenced corrals for your horses. Don't miss the beautiful drive down to the canyon flood, just not in your RV. Saw 15 turkey, an owl, and a big elk as we were leaving. The road into the site is about 6 miles in but it is easy for any size rig and not at all washboard.

Sad we could not stay because of our size. Perfect location to visit the ovens. We were politely directed out.

The ice cream truck just breezed through. Early morning it gets a bit noisy as the hunters gather their hunting dogs and head out in hopes of bagging a big one. We enjoyed biking around the large lake where several fishermen were drifting over the water in their bass boats. The WMA requires a pass which costs $27 a year. This particular site also requires that you sign in on their website and get an official reservation code which needs to be displayed. The sites are grassy, spacious, mostly flat, and mainly dry. It parallels I75 but I can't say the traffic noise kept me awake, and I am a light sleeper. Can't beat free.

Let's get the downside over first. There are a limited number of full service sites. Now for the positives. Large sites with lots of room between sites. Nice bathhouse at the end of the B Loop. The tent sites are right by the water. Take a walk around the campground and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Not too far from Halifax or a road trip in the opposite direction along the coastal villages, which is quite lovely.

Don't get discouraged if you have to drive in a couple of miles. Our site was actually a loop and sat high on a knoll. We could just see Hwy. 40 traffic although we didn't hear it.

I don't feel very qualified to give this a clear rating but wanted to at least share my experience. Calling their office at 7pm they confirmed they had a site available in the field. Knowing we were in a motor home, he explained that Exit 12 directions on their website were imperative because there is a low bridge off of Exit 11 which is how GPS wanted to bring us. It is quiet and neatly kept although we didn’t walk around the whole area. To dump would have cost an extra $30 so don't arrive full expecting the dump is included in your camping fee ($40).

Standing water was a breeding ground for mosquitoes. It was so bad at dusk when we arrived that we decided to forego hooking up the water until morning. We only stayed that long because we had ordered a trailer tire and had to wait for it to be delivered to the tire store. We did find some nice shells on the beach. There is also a $3 pp state park day use fee per day.

Quiet sites nestled in the trees along a lumber road. The drive into the sites is along the mountain ridge and the road is narrow but rather smooth. We made sure when we left that no one was coming in. That could pose a real problem with one or the other having to back up.
