NEVER GO THERE! This beach is crude-oil contaminated! After a pipeline spill in 2015, this beach is still covered in crude, sticky black tar in Aug 2016! Lifeguards said, it is a natural phenomenon that oil surfaces on the beach. Haha. Hilarious lie, but not nice explanation.
Painted Hills is one of the seven wonders of Oregon. Taken back into millions of years of natural history. Silent and peaceful, not crowded. A must see place for those interested in paleontology and ancient geological history. Last, but not least, one will learn, how modern toothpastes are linked to Painted Hills!
Unbelievable scenery. Best to visit in an early morning in spring/summer, when the low rays of sun paints everything yellow. You can spot Mount Hood in the Western distance between the cliffs in clear weather!
Absolutely worth the trip, if you are in the area. Gorgeous views, easy trails, prefect for photography. Beautiful redwood forest and you may spot hobbits in the woods if you are lucky.
