“world class waterfalls”
Situated within the foothills of Oregon’s Cascade Mountains, Silver Falls State Park, located 25 miles east of Salem, exemplifies Oregon State Parks mission of excellence. A large forested landscape, boasted by world class waterfalls and nationally distinguished historic buildings, provides a variety of recreational opportunities for the whole family. Though the Trail of Ten falls may be the main allure, the diversity of outdoor recreation including picnicking, camping, fishing, swimming and wildlife observation, makes Silver Falls State Park a popular destination year round. The Trail of Ten Falls is a designated National Recreation Trail, and lures photographers, hikers and waterfall enthusiasts alike. Listed as a moderate hike with 800-feet elevation variation, sturdy shoes and a camera are encouraged. Each of the three trailheads leading into the canyon starts atop of an over 100-foot waterfall. The descent into the pristine canyon begins within the canopy of towering Douglas-firs, as it meanders down to the undergrowth of ferns into the heart of the canyon, meeting up with the winding creek. Whether you are up for the full nine mile trek or a shortened journey, the Canyon trail is and enjoyable and beautiful hike as you as explore from one falls to the next. As the largest state park within Oregon, Silver Falls offers diverse opportunities for recreation with plenty of room for all visitors. For the equestrians, dog owners, mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiasts, more than 25 miles of multi-use backcountry trails spread over the 9,000 acres offer a great escape. Surrounded by Douglas-fir, western hemlock, Oregon grape, salal, sword fern and the remnants of old growth forest, the trails of Rackett Ridge, Perimeter and Buck Mountain loop provide remarkable scenery with a variety of plant and animal life. Pacific black-tail deer, black bear, coyotes and cougars thrive in the lush, temperate rainforest and may be seen within the remote park areas. The South Falls Day Use Area has spacious lawns, BBQ stands, picnic shelters or tables, playground, horse shoe pits, doggie off leash area, and charming creek Silver Falls is famous for. Ever since the opening day in 1933; visitors have been using these grounds for potlucks, family reunions and weddings, all within a short walk to view the famous 177-foot South Falls. How do you camp? Whether it is in a RV, tent, rustic cabin, with a group, with your horse, at the youth camp or in a deluxe cabin, Silver Falls has it all. Specific details about group facilities can be found under FAQ. Campground maps, availability and detailed information are just a phone call away.

Non-stop ahhhs! Most beautiful place, especially in the rain, the falls were fuller and flowing heavy. If your ever in the area you have to enjoy this place, don't just pass by. Cabin was perfect for price and park officials very courteous
I'd recommend spending at least a couple days here. There are so many hikes and you can camp in the park too. A lot of the trails are gravel and they have hand rails. The fee to get in is only $5. If you decide to go on the weekends be prepared for lots of crowds. This is a very popular park, especially the Trail of Ten.
There's also a swimming area and playground for your littles.
Beautiful park and wonderful hiking. When I lived in Oregon, this was always near the top of the list of places to bring out of state guests. Even if you don't do the whole hiking loop, going a mile or so brings you to several falls and through some lovely forest. Be sure to bring a camera.
We only had time to go to one of the many waterfalls at this park, but it was STUNNING (the one we saw was the only one we were told that you could actually walk behind :D). If we are EVER in Portland, OR again - this will be on our list to visit again and see all the falls. :D It is for sure a must-see if you are in the area!
Silver Falls is known for the waterfall with a trail that leads behind it. There are 10 falls within the 9 mile hiking loop and a host of amenities for camping. They have two large 'ranch houses' that can sleep 50 people as well as the wonderfully kept campground for RVs, tents, yurts or cabins.
We rate Silver Falls with 5 Stars because of the long list of amenities and activities and the overall care/attention to keep it in top shape. There is a popular swimming hole, historic lodge with restaurant, kids exploration zone, hiking, biking, equestrian trails, fishing, etc. etc.
We visited in the Spring so our site had some mud. It was a spacious and private site with hummingbirds, white crowned sparrows, robins and blue jays fluttering about. We had neighbors on one size that were visible however there was enough of a barrier that it still felt private.

We rolled into Silver Falls, looking for refuge from a relentless winter storm on the coast. Our site, B20, took a little wiggling to get into as it was perpendicular to the road. But once settled, we appreciated the intimacy of the site.
As a side note, another Airstream blogger, the Small Small Trailer, was parked next to us, leading to a delightful conversation on chronicling adventures.
The showers and bathrooms were spotless and there was plenty of hot water to go around. A slight bummer was that the dump station was several miles away along a winding road. But that minor inconvenience was well worth what the park offers.
Silver Falls will blow your mind if you like water falls. Unfortunately, we travel with our 'fur kids' and they are not allowed on the Canyon Trail, so we were not able to enjoy them fully. We did take them on the Rim Trail, though, and that was enough to be amazed.
The park has an historic lodge (with free wifi for those camping) that has an excellent coffee bar. To enjoy a latte next to a roaring fire- well it does not get much better.
We would have stayed longer, but that darn coastal storm was coming in with snow on the forecast. Had it not been for that, we would have stayed a good long time. It was that amazing.

My family (late 30's parents, elementary aged kids) lives 45 mins from Silver Falls so we've been five or six times for hikes. This was our first time camping (RV) at the park. Campgrounds were perfectly sized, properly spaced apart and well equipped. I was surprised to find very cozy/heated restrooms (including clean showers). Fantastic park for kids and incredible hikes for adults/families. I highly recommend this park.

The campgrounds are forested and secluded, but just a short walk to all the hiking trails, including the Trail of Ten Falls — truth in advertising, even the most cynical of hikers would feel unicorns, kittens and rainbows swell in their hearts hiking over, behind and under 10 falls along this 8 mile loop.
Lots of families and groups camp here — people reserve spots months in advance, but you can get in on summer weekdays last minute if you’re willing to site hop. Sites are spacious, level and well-spaced. Only partial hookups available in the RV loop, but there is a dump station a few miles up the road at the North end of the park.
If you're in the area for awhile, check out nearby Silverton for shops, supplies and restaurants, and the Frank Lloyd Wright house and the Oregon Gardens are also beautiful.

Stayed here for two nights, starting April 30, 2017.
The Good
- The site was lovely, wide, and secluded which made for a peaceful two night stay.
- Full water and electric hookups, with no faults detected from my Surge Guard.
- The nature trail started right next to our site, and either brought you all the way around the campground on a very nice nature trail with varied scenery, or out to the main falls area.
- Free dump station, regardless if you are camping or not.
The Bad
- The free dump station was about 10 minutes down the road which was an inconvenience at best.
- Twisty and narrow roads from the freeway, but manageable.
- Zero, Zip, Nada service with Verizon, even with a small booster.
The Ugly
- None to report.
