There are 2 campgrounds on the reservoir. Bear Ears is totally no services and Pronghorn has electricity. The hassle part is they are all reserved sites. We came into Bear Ears and there was only one other camper. We were on hold for 30 minutes to make a reservation. We paid $28 plus $9 for a vehicle pass for a bare site. Obviously $37 for a no services site is too high. In addition the bank was so high we could not get to the water.

Colorado parks will be our last resort camping.

The park campground has numerous sites, probably a couple hundred (see map picture). However they are spread out over a large area which gives each site plenty of room. Some sites are in the trees and some are very open. We lucked into one of the best sites right on a point. We were here over the US Memorial Day weekend and there was plenty of room. However it sounds like it does get very busy in the summer. The cost was very reasonable at $20 CDN per night for a site with electricity. You also need a Provincial Parks vehicle pass which can add around $10 CDN per day unless you buy an annual pass. The picture shows just a small part of the lake.

The previous review detailed all there is to do so I will not repeat. We stayed 1 night in route. We were here the last of May so near the end of the spring season. The sites are gravel. The gravel in many of them was broken up and loose probably from the spring thaw. They were still usable. I would guess they will get packed down as the season progresses. There are privacy fences between the sites. It appears they are continually improving the grounds. We enjoyed our stay.

The campground is in a great location being right on Lake Granby and close to the west entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. We have been here 2 nights (during the week) and usually there have been a couple of empty sites. All sites are FCFS. Many of the sites back onto the lake as ours did. Nice beach. Site size varies. We had no problem with our 28 foot bumper to ball trailer. Didn’t use the bathrooms

Interesting contrasts. A beautiful location with the lake and desert. However it has been one our noisier stays. Between the large groups, the ATVs, and the generators it definitely has not been peaceful. There is nothing to separate the sites so that does not help. We are here on a weekend so that is part of it. On the positive, there are numerous wild (?) burros and the grounds are kept nice. Really mixed feelings.

The location is a nice setting right on the river. It has numerous fire rings and room for large RVs. It also has a boat launch. Saw a wild turkey. However after we were all set up and paid for the night we went for a walk and came back with numerous ticks especially on the dogs. The locals said they were particularly bad this year. We packed up and went into the Nimrod RV Park.

As mentioned in previous posts there are 3 levels. When we were here some spots were labeled reserved, some were labeled open for 1 night and the majority were unlabeled so I am not sure what their status was. I think there were only 4 trailers in all 3 levels the weekend before Labor Day weekend. The drive thru spots were in the upper lot and obviously were not designed for current trailers. It would be difficult to get 2 trailers in the side by side spots if both had slide outs. We parked in the middle level and had a very nice view over the marina and lake. Not much to do here if you are not a boater.

First, to clarify the previous comments on the cement barriers- there are 2 sections to the campground. The lower, closer to the lake section has no concrete guides to the sites. However the sites are small. Our 28 foot, bumper to ball, trailer would fit but we would have had to disconnect the truck and park it along side. The upper section does have longer sites but they do have the low (6 inch high) concrete outlines to the sites. We parked in one without any great problem and did not have to disconnect.

The camp host site was vacant and there were no pay slips in the box so we did not pay. Since we would have only paid $3.50 with our senior pass, it wasn’t because we were trying to save money.

The bathrooms (which we did not use) were clean and had new toilet paper rolls so someone is tending them.

It was a beautiful location with view of the reservoir especially from the upper section.

Stopped here before entrance to Joshua Tree. Quite busy. Lots of spaces. Some freeway noise. Not a long term stay area but ok for a night or two.

Spots are not well defined. The grass has grown through the gravel so you are not sure if you are parking on an “approved” site or not. On the other hand - who cares. I think it was pretty free-form. If we understood the sign correctly it was $10 if you didn’t use electricity or $35 if you did. A rodeo next to the campground was going to happen the next day so a lot of horse trailers came into the rodeo grounds next door. No problem. Enjoy the small town atmosphere! Yes we liked it.
