Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on August 01, 2021We opted to stay at Sunset Point while visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. While it added about 20 minutes of drive time to the west entrance gate, it gave us a much more pup-friendly spot. The sites were spacious and a mix of shady and more open. Easy access to the lake was a huge plus and there was a boat ramp adjacent to the campground.
Each site had a picnic table and fire pit. Vault toilets, no showers. No hook-ups, but there were water spigots throughout the campground. No dump station. Granby Lake is simply stunning, make the drive to Arapaho Bay for even more spectacular views. Lots of hiking and fishing in the area. The town of Grand Lake is worth a stroll, as well as a stop at the historic Grand Lake Lodge. Of course, there is also Rocky Mountain National Park nearby – plenty to see and do!
Maybe I’m behind the times, but $26/night for dry camping seemed a bit steep. Some of the sites are doubles ($52/night). That said, it seems to be the going rate around here and the campground was nearly full most nights during our stay. All sites are first come/first served.
Another plus was excellent cell coverage! We had 5 bars of Verizon 4G.

It’s always a risk to stay on the lake and have it be super windy. Yes we had some crazy winds - but when it was beautiful it was worth it. After our horrible experience at Stillwater (don’t go there) - we broke camp and rushed to Sunset at around 8:30 AM hopeful this First-come, First-serve campground would have people breaking camp and they were! It was full the night before. Spot 17 was available on June 17 that was my birthday too - so it was karma! We think spot 18 is better - marginally because of the campfire placement. This is a great family campground - only about 21 spaces right on Lake Granby. Campground host Fred is awesome - and the third time we’ve been at a campground - he also has managed Guanella Pass. Fred is great - not overbearing, keeps the campsites clean and extremely helpful. The campground is also close to some great hikes. Monarch Lake loop is a treat. We look forward to coming back again!

We arrived here on July 5th around 3 pm hoping to find a spot for our 36’ motorhome and after going through the campsite we were delighted to find campsite #22 open for First come first serve. Nice view of the lake and flat . Also had room for our Jeep. The campsite seems busy have bathrooms which were clean . No dump site here. Lovely place to camp and wished I had more times and would have stay longer . View of the lake are breathtaking. Site also had a tent pad a picnic table and a fire ring. Paid $14.50 x night with the seniors goldend pass but without is $29. I always has 2-3 bars of AT&T here. Which was nice.

The campground is in a great location being right on Lake Granby and close to the west entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. We have been here 2 nights (during the week) and usually there have been a couple of empty sites. All sites are FCFS. Many of the sites back onto the lake as ours did. Nice beach. Site size varies. We had no problem with our 28 foot bumper to ball trailer. Didn’t use the bathrooms
