This is a terrible place to camp. The road is heavily rutted and unmaintained. The primary activity back here is target shooting and it’s heavily used.

The road here is about ( miles off US-550 and requires a long drive through Pueblo owned land. The road is (barely) maintained with several low water crossings that are impassable when it rains. The area is mostly used for target shooting and there is absolutely nothing around here except deer flies. I would definitely not recommend camping here. Go north on N.M. 4 to the forest and camp there.

This campground was completely reworked a few years ago. It’s nestled in the trees along a creek and is far enough off the road so it’s quiet. Nice full hookups and we would definitely return.

This is a fantastic place to visit. 89,000 acres of wilderness and you can hike all of it, or spend the day fishing. There's a $20 entry fee or they honor all Federal park passes for no charge entry. Elk abound and visitors may see coyotes, lots of prairie dogs, hawks and deer as well. There are even black bear here. A great way to spend a day.
