Do your research before deciding on Shelter Cove. Their website says the only road in is a 23 mile, curvy, mountain roady. May not be suitable/enjoyable for some RV's/Travel Trailers. I'm not sure about the road but we decided not to go after reading the description of the road on their website.
DO NOT STAY HERE. We had intended to stay a week. We checked out the pictures on the website, they looked very nice with green grass and right off the lake. Spoke with the owner who was also very nice and chatty over the phone. We pulled in and it's just a patch of dead grass next to the lake. Two full timers had old raggedy worn down rigs which were a terrible eye sore. The so called bathrooms and hot showers they advertise on their website are a joke. The bathroom building looked as if it was about to fall down, the bathroom doors were ajar, with yellow caution tape around them. We turned around and drove another 2 hours to find better accommodation.
We stayed at the Lake Walcott State Park Campground last week (Sept 2020). It's not exactly "on your path" and is about 20-30 minutes or so off the main highway. It is so worth the detour! You are driving through desert landscape until you enter Lake Walcott State Park where there is green and luscious grass and huge trees everywhere you look. We also saw 4 different families of deer with their fawns frolicking around the park. The sights are to die for with breath taking views of the sunset & sunrise over the lake. They also have a 5 star disc golf course.

Clean, well kept facility. Good stopping point after driving across Kansas. Pet friendly with small fenced in dog park. Very friendly hosts! Stopped to ask us if we need anything and sold us ice outside of business hours. Went out of their way to make sure we were happy and taken care of.
