A MUST STOP!! This lovely farm has something for everyone to enjoy! Kids enjoyed the slushies, parents enjoyed the beers and wines, all enjoyed smelling the lavender products in the shop and the yard games. The staff are so friendly and we enjoyed our morning stop here.
VC closed for renovations so if you plan to do any rentals I believe they are from a nearby shop. We took our “sleds” and didn’t have much luck with sand-boarding but loved flying our kite! We watched the hang gliders practice their take off. Lots of walking so be prepared for Sandy terrain. No entry fee so worth the stop to visit and check it out. Pretty nice views.
Great stop! Plan at least an hour to make your way through the exhibits and walk the outdoor sites. The museum is really great for all ages. * Hint* you can park close to the VC (exhibits and outdoor markers) and then drive closer to the monument if you aren’t up for the walk.
Just amazing to think of the history here. NPS does a fantastic job at educating and sharing the knowledge. Staff and volunteers super friendly and informative.
If you are an aviation fanatic this is a good quick stop. Otherwise, not much to see. The VC was closed but the bathrooms were super clean.
We booked here last minute for a quick trip to the Outer Banks. The Hilton Garden Inn’s (Kitty Hawk) pool was out of service and we prefer the breakfast at the Hampton Inn. Our boys enjoyed the indoor pool - it is winter so the outdoor pool and lazy river are not in service. The rooms were larger than we are used to, we loved the balcony facing the dunes (3rd floor) and in pretty nice condition for a beach hotel. Access to the beach was easy and we loved this slightly hidden hotel chain within the Outer Banks community of Duck. Service was helpful and breakfast was the standard Hampton Inn fare (you always know what to expect with Hilton). Will definitely look at booking here again when we come back.
I could spend a week here!! But alas we got a couple of hours. We came in thru the Portageville gate and stopped at the bridge viewing right away. Great view of the bridge and you can hear the falls. We headed to the main parking area and took the short walk to the falls then followed the path to middle falls. All up the stop was around 40 mins. We even grabbed ice cream at the end of the walk. Last stop, Inspiration Point. Gorgeous view and took some snaps. Left through the Castile gate.
Would go back in a heartbeat and spend more time exploring. Gorgeous and well maintained park.
I feel bad reviewing as we didn’t get there in time to go up and look at the view. Just my fair warning that the parking fees around the area are a bit steep. We had a look around and took a family photo with the lighthouse. Pretty cool to see though.
Really thought this would be a photo op but ended up spending over an hour here!!! So very cool. We all loved exploring this fort. Kids completed Jr Ranger program - Ranger Jillian was incredibly engaging and passionate. We spotted the bald eagle and juvenile in a nearby tree. Don’t miss this stop!
Take the drive over the bridge! Loved explaining the importance to the kids :)
Worth a quick stop. We enjoyed walking around the ruins. The history here is palpable.
