Very Nice Large and well maintained KOA. I prefer KOAs because they are usually very nice parks, kept clean, well stocked stores, and nice security and facilities. If there is a KOA in the area I am visiting, you can count on the fact that is where I will be. This one exemplifies all that is KOA.
They have tent and RV spots available, however only 2 RV spots and both are pull thru. I spent about 3 hours traversing the rocky hills and taking photographs. It was pretty neat although there has been some modern day art added as well. :( The site is very clean and well kept. The hostess was extremely helpful and nice. It was a pleasant surprise to see such a nice looking campground area. Also the skies are pretty dark when the moon is not around. I would definitely recommend to anyone who would be interested.
Wasn't impressed. Most of the telescopes are not in operation due to antiquated equipment. The one scope I saw that was operating was automated with no one in attendance. There was what appeared to be an old monitor showing live shots of the Sun, but I can get clearer images using my amateur equipment. Only person I saw there was the dude in the gift shop. It is a long arduous drive thru elevation to get to the observatory. I guess with all of the observatories I have visited, I was expecting something more.
I visited this park while waiting for some repairs to my RV. I am glad I did. Although it was midday and the large mammals were hiding in the cooler areas, the vegetation, flowers and ambience was a welcome respite from the downtime of waiting for RV repairs.
Spent a night here on the way to Alamogorda. It is a nice clean, quiet, no frills type of RV Park. I would stay here again. 5-8-15
