“A breath-taking cave system with tours.”
Originally named Bats Cave, was first developed as an attraction by Jay Gurley in the late 1950s. It was declared a National Natural Landmark in 1972. The first thing you notice about Cathedral Caverns is the massive entrance. The huge opening measures 126 feet wide and 25 feet high. And it gets even better. Inside the cavern, you will find Big Rock Canyon, Mystery River and some of the most beautiful formations Mother Nature has ever created. Among them, you will see Stalagmite Mountain, The Frozen Waterfall and Goliath, a huge stalagmite column that reaches the ceiling of the cave some 45 feet above! Cathedral Caverns is the perfect field trip for your school, church or other group. You can visit anytime, as the cave maintains a comfortable 60-degree temperature year round. Make plans to visit today! The Park is open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tours leave every 2 hours. In addition to cave tours, the state park offers gem mining, picnicking, and tent camping.

Family, boyfriend & I went here about 2 years ago. Sometimes it was hard to hear the tourguide being in such a large group. But that didn't take the fun out of it at all. It was wonderful and we all had a good time. It's really not that far from Huntsville/Madison/Athens, so if you're in the area you should definitely check it out. Very family friendly. I believe it is also Wheelchair Accessible.
I took my mom and my two sons, ages 6 and 8, and we all enjoyed it. Great idea for a hot day!
We visited April 23, 2015. It wasn't very busy so we had a chance to chat with some of the staff...awesome folks! My 86 Y/O 2x leg amputee Dad was able to ride in the golf cart instead of having to be pushed in wheelchair. It is accessible the whole way, but there are some steep hills to be pushing someone either up or down! The caves themselves were really neat and the guide was funny, informative, and was genuinely enthusiastic about her job. From my Dad to my 2.5 y/o grandchild, all had a great time. Tip: bring a light jacket or sweater because it is a little chilly and damp.
Took the family here yesterday and we had a blast! The cavern was very impressive, our guide was great and the shop area was really nice. Kids did the gem harvesting, loved it! Would recommend calling to obtain tour hours, web site only has operational hours. We ended up having to wait 75min for the first tour of the AM. Worth the money for this unique experience.
This park is 8 miles from Hwy 72 on paved roads. The entrance to the campgrounds is a level dirt road. The campground has 11 sites with water and power. Sites 1-5 are pulll-thru but are close to each other. The bathhouses are clean and the showers are large. There was only one other camper in the park. The only noise was from cars coming from the Cathedral Caverns on a road above the campground. The entrance is a short distance from the campgrounds. After dark, we didn't see a car until the next morning. We had no cell phone service until we turned on our booster.

Brand new full service area about 3 miles south of US 72. Full service hookups with wi-fi service available from the park. TV Signal and Cell Service very limited but was able to get enough signal to do text messaging and read emails. Caverns tour is very nice, hiking trials about a 1/4 mile from campground area. Small playground adjacent to campground area, with bathhouse and laundry near the w/e and tent area. Nightly rate doesn't include weekday discounts or reservation fee.

We stayed in the new section (1-25) which has full hookups. Big, level spots. Wi-Fi was poor when there were several campers but when most left the Wi-Fi was excellent. The only negative is that the bathrooms are a hike from the new section. A tour of the cave is a must.

Full hookups, easy access and setup. Level sites. The first few sites in the new section don’t have shade but the camp host were amazing and there was lots of space for walking the dogs and for the grandson to play. Cavern tour is a MUST! If you have kids gem mine and splurge on the Bonanza Bucket what a fun activity to do with the kiddos!! The trails are easy and moderate but they are well kept and marked as well as wide in most spots. Small climbing wall for kids at the park across the street from the new section. Was a short walk to the bath house and old section but we just drove if needed after dark. Just a relaxing and educational weekend.

We are full-timers in a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow. We were in site B24 for 14 days in late October. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The FHU sites are relatively new and the CG is very clean, quiet, peaceful and well maintained. The sites are currently gravel, but many are surprisingly unlevel back to front and spacing varies quite a bit from very close to fairly reasonable. There are apparently plans to concrete the gravel pads.
AT&T coverage was dismal, ranging from 1 to 0 bars of LTE speeds varying from 0 to 0.5 MB/s. CG WiFi was inconsistent, with speeds from next to zero and up to 1.5 MB/s. There are plans to upgrade it in the next year or so. We were not able to get DISH coverage on any of the western satellites at our site do to a large oak tree to the SW. We were able to get 17 OTA channels with our omni antenna.
