Mt. Hood Village RV Resort Thousand Trails

We stayed 9 days with clouds, sun and some rain.. ( and now some snow on government pass) typical NW weather.. they have a nice game room, lodge etc. the restaurant on site is know to be good as well. a bit pricey but good.. during winter the place can get busy especially on weekends with skiers heading to slopes when Timberline and Mt Hood Meadows are open which will be soon. (maybe thanksgiving)

You can receive packages at this resort from like Amazon but ,and this is a big BUT, Unless you know for sure, assume they are sending the package by USPS..

YOU MUST ADDRESS THEM TO:: YOUR NAME, GENERAL DELIVERY, WELCHES OR 97067-9999...

If it come UPS or FEDex they will bring to your site with location and site number.. According to USPS personal in Welches 99% of amazon packages come to them so figure it will need to be addressed to GENERAL DELIVERY.. The amazon truck delivery at 5:30 in the morning.. so you can pick up package when the PO opens at 9 am

the area is neat for sure.. a little slow now between seasons but snow on the mountains and more to come it will pick up..

ATT and Verizon are better with tmobile ok.. we have our weboost up and that helps with service.

one site to avoid is vine maple 49. We were in VM 12 in 2020 and it was better.. level and less lights around..

There is a place towards Sandy on the right past Shortys gas station.. it's right around MM 25 so when you see the green Recycle sign SLOW down.. it the next right look for the big sign.. they are only open THUR thru MON 9-5pm.. when you get to scales just say you are doing recycling and it no charge. The also do oil if you have any from a recent change which was a big help for me.

If you are a skier this is a the place to be.. Government Camp pass is like 15 miles with Timberline Lodge and Mt Hood Meadows within 10 or so mins.. Getting up to TL is a bigger deal.. MTM is easier but a bit further and you need to head up Hwy 35 to access them. Both offer superior ski conditions for sure..

We were really happy to find an Encore park near Mt Hood so we could stay a few days up in the trees and enjoy. This is a pretty nice park with about 6 different sections of RV sites, so you do not feel too packed in when it is at capacity. We stayed over July 4 and it was great.

The location is really nice, about 14 miles from Sandy (closest good sized city) and 14 miles from turn up Mt Hood to Timberline Lodge. It is located just off the main highway passing through. If you come from the East, the drive up the mountain is fairly steep and before that, driving by the river has a lot of wind - just be prepared for it.

The older sections of this RV park can be pretty tight in a large rig. They have 2 new sections with lots of space, but it seems they are prioritizing for people who pay more for the spots or lease them annually. If you use the free Encore option, you will probably be in the older spaces.

It was full hookup and 50 amp, so that was great. We were walking distance from the indoor pool as well.

They had free wifi at the lodge / pool area that worked quite well. ATT service was surprisingly fast for us.

We would recommend this if you are going to Mt Hood for sure!

Stayed here because it was a last minute reservation and other places I wanted to stay were full. Was quoted $59 online but when we checked in there is a $4 per night resort fee and a lodging tax, liked the site as far as space goes and plent of shade. No sewer available in the section we were in and no WiFi. Did have cable, but the channels were weird. For eaxample, the One CNN channel they had was in Spanish. None of their channel numbers matched the listing they gave us. Check in was quick as we had made an online reservation. Will not stay here again as do not feel we got our mobey’s worth!!

Parts of the campground are new and very nice. Apparently, this is where the annual residences and nightly visitors go. We stayed on our Thousand Trails membership and were stuck in an older part of the place.

I assumed that we would be on full hookups but we were put in a water and electric (50 amp) only site. I asked to move but was told that there were no full hookups available for our stay (given that over half of the new sites in a different loop were empty and are full hookups). Whatever, not the end of the world but a bit of a letdown.

While most other loops had nice, fresh gravel, we were on dirt, basically. Definitely seems like they could do better. Our site was very short (had to park our Jeep cross-ways in front of the RV) and very narrow. Sites are a little close together but we've seen worse.

The shower house is adequate but definitely aging. The shower handles were broken so you had to work really hard to adjust them. The hot water was room temperature at best.

While there, we checked out the pool one day. The water felt "icky" and the next day it was closed for maintenance which lasted the rest of the week.

They advertise wifi but it's only available near the office. There are access points scattered around the park and our power pedestal had a breaker in it labeled "wifi - do not turn off" but it was off and we were told that it didn't work. Luckily, cell service here is pretty good.

The campground is very pretty and there are a lot of hiking trails that we really enjoyed. Had it not been for that, I would have rated it a lot lower.

If you're in the area, it's okay but I definitely wouldn't make it my first choice. Convenience to Mt Hood is a big selling point.

Since this is part of our Thousand Trails membership, we stayed at this Encore Park for no charge. Normal retail is $60. Check in is super easy & friendly and the park is massive, with sites for RVs, tents, and cabin rentals. Most of the older park is heavily shaded so the new Beaver Valley section is a welcome addition for those looking for satellite signal. The entire park is big rig friendly.

This is a full service, gated resort, with indoor and outdoor pools, a large lodge, small fully stocked store and cafe on site. There are several paths leading down to the Salmon River and one path leading up to the Wildwood Recreation Site (don't miss the Fish Viewing Center!).

This is a Thousand Trails Encore resort that accepts Passport America discounts. Checking in and out was a little slow and confusing but overall a nice place almost directly under Mt Hood.
Biggest complaint was WiFi only available at the club house but my AT&T signal was good so I managed to get by without the WiFi. Close proximity to Portland a big plus. Very nice resort and I would stay here again.

While we enjoyed our stay we have some suggestions for improvement. It was a nice spacious campground in a picturesque setting. The cons: The bathhouses are in dire need of repair, renovation, and heat. They are not heated unless you use the showers at the pool. Although those weren't too much better.

Here are some of the pros: pool, spa, sauna, large campground, year round access, tiny house village, large fitness room, country store for supplies.

We checked in on tue and was "assigned" site 12 in Vine Maple Hollow. (over the next few days it seemed like all units coming in, the main road was out our front window, were heading to VMN for the most part..

VMH is close to the nice big laundry area. There are some 15 or more Front loader washer and dryers.. I was seeing $2 for wash, $2 for dryer but not sure how long that time is.. The machine are coin operated and the area is clean, bright and very accessible. There is two tables for folding etc and some books have been left behind to read.. :)

The bath house for this section looks to be newly renovated with all new tile, toilets, showers and partitions.. and heat!! The shower have a push button that runs the water, which is not adjustable for temp but is a good temp, for about 75ish seconds (1 min 15 sec) which is not bad.. the stalls are good size and there is a WC accessible unit with roll in bottom. There are 3 sinks in a nice granite countertop with soap, elec outlets etc and big mirror. The light is motion/heat controlled so if you are sitting on the toilet for more than like 10 min the light go off.. (ask me how i know..LOL) but its not PITCH black dark as the door has a bit of a gap to allow light in or use your phones flashlight.

There is a nice lodge area with wifi, pool and foosball table, fireplace, wall mounted TV, and several sofas to sit around and chat.. the general store with good amount of stuff. also they have a lot of info on local hikes, places to go, annual site cost, and the new Park model/ tiny house section, you own the house and rent the lot for $508+- a month with a 20 yr lease term. There is also a onsite bakery/ breakfast place, see price sheet in pictures from Sept, 2020.. We were told the food was good and a bit pricey but we did not go there.

Most of the annuals were located in Goffs Landing, Beaver Valley and Alder Dells which were nicer sites with landscaping around the large gravel pads but not as many trees as in our area of VMH..

The sites in VMH are gravel with water (62 TDS) elec (120v) and sewer with a 3" hole vs 4" like most others.. the are mostly level and deep enough for a 30 ft with PU in front.. others appears to be longer,, the roads around the resort are paved so no dust etc.. :)

There is cable TV that WORKS.. see picture for channels.

We were here 18 years ago and were QUITE impressed; however it is evident how the focus has changed from customer service and experience to the bottom line based on the following. Restrooms are passable; however neither maintenance nor cleaning is not being done routinely, just signed off as indicated by the dirt and webs in the windows and corners, rust in the vents, “out of order” toilets, and OLD dividers. Shower/bath houses have only one side entrance instead of entrance areas from opposite sides possibly from using one side for an additional campsite. Therefore causing people cutting through campsites backing to the bathhouses. There were entrances on each side 18 years ago. Power pedestals originally were in good repair; however now many have broken sockets, covers, and tilted from being backed over. Overhanging trees have some dead limbs in them which risk falling on the RVs/tents should high winds come up. The laundry building has mostly good equipment; however it hasn’t been cleaned in ages per dirty floor and so many pieces of left behind laundry, and a washer partially off the base. Laundry is $2 for wash and $2 for drying (7/2021) using quarters not tokens. The older campsites are well shaded and appear to have had some of the older larger sites divided to fit more sites in. What had been the tent area is now full hook-ups without ANY shade almost parking lot style.
WiFI: claims to have throughout property; however none at campsite and front gate employee said is available at the clubhouse.
Connectivity: 5G for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile, good connectivity in EARLY a.m., poor during the day. AT&T best of all 3 services
Location: 2 miles from several eateries; paths to the Wildwood Nature center with fish observation window; on the Salmon River (paths to river); 20 - 30 miles from Mt. Hood; 14 miles to Sandy, OR. Has exercise room, pool, cafe and senior center. Saw a shuttle but no information available about shuttle or nearby hiking trails. We were able to change campsites to one of 6 available this weekend after waiting on hold for 10 minutes for options and permission to move.
Permanent camper section: Now has several long term sections for RVs and Tiny homes - fair maintenance.
Cottages: Well cared for!!!
Guest etiquette: With all the new campers, camping etiquette is lacking per people cutting through campsites, speed on the dirt roads of the campsites, noise levels, and persons not cleaning up after their dogs. Most dog owners did well keeping their dogs contained; however several struggled to keep their dogs quiet.
In conclusion, what used to be a high class campground worth the $85/night is no longer cleaned, maintained, or modern and worth $30/night at best.

The RV space we had was nice. No problems there. My kids loved the pool, game room, and playground. The resort needs to be maintained better for sure. The pool was a gross green color and the bathhouse next to our RV space was so dirty and run down it was pretty disgusting. Half of the toilet were broken. One shower was so stained it looked like something was murdered in there. My 9 year old cried when I asked her to take a shower, even in one of the less gross showers.
Tents are allowed so there were a few large groups near us that set up tent compounds.
My kids had a good time, but for the price we paid I expected it to be better maintained.
