Easy to get to, nice and quiet

There are two entrances to this space. We opted to enter closer to Capitol Reed (West). Access to campsites was a little easier for our rig (19’ school bus). Several sites with fire rings, very flat and open spaces.
There is some soft sand in some places at the campsites (the road is no problem, gravel and fine), so just keep an eye out or scout ahead.
You can hear cars go by, but sparse because it’s not a heavily traveled road. Noise dies down at night.

I managed to get what I think is the best site in this area. There’s a wooden sign up against a huge tree that says “tanks” (couldn’t ever figure out why). If you turn down that way you’ll see a little fire pit and the most perfect place in the world to set a tent down under a huge beautiful tree. There was a little road noise which I usually don’t like but after a bit I didn’t notice it. After it was dark and everything quieted down I could hear the river about 150 feet away. It’s definitely primitive camping. I had some learns along the way, as this was my first time. If you intend to cook on the fire, be sure to bring some kind of contraption so you don’t have to hold the pan over the fire the whole time like I did. I also didn’t have a table. Whoops! But it was by far my favorite camping experience and only about 15 minutes from the Capitol reef visitor center. Highly recommend.

Tent camped here and it was perfect. Had some shade with trees, a fire pit, space to pull our car into the spot and was easy to get into! Drive to site was easy a downhill road but not difficult for our mid size suv. Enough other campers around to feel comfortable that we were in the right area (newish to boon-docking) but super quiet and no sight of neighbors at our site.

Awesome private sites, 15 minutes from capitol reef visitor center! Had a few friendly neighbors walk or drive past, but otherwise very private. Some of the sites are set further back from the road, they would be even more private. Some highway noise, but not bad, could still hear the river.
As other posters mentioned, use the western entrance to the area, it is much firmer/flatter than the east. Saw multiple sedans make it down there

No toilet / no water / no bathroom sink / no shower / no table / rocks fire pit / easy access / high shade.
We had the famous site with the big tree: it was amazing! But there is a lot of biting flies, really agressive, and a lot of little flies who's make you crazy. Besides that, it's true that the place is really beautiful and just 20mn driving from Capitol Reef Visitor Center. There is the Fremont River behind the campground, but too much biting flies to approch it. Anyway, the water is so brown that you don't want to bath!
We stayed there at the end of June, and we were alone. Beautiful but maybe little bit too wild for us. If you arrived earlier, I suggest the "Fruita Campground" in the Fruita of Capitol Reef, which seems really nice with grass, trees, shade, water and clean sanitaries for 20$.

We stayed here just for one night but it was perfect! We did have to move quite a bit of cow poop out of the way to set our tent out. There was a nice fire pit and our mini van did just fine getting there. Absolutely no cell service anywhere near where we were not even if you drove 20 minutes down the way. You could definitely hear the cars passing but it wasn’t bad. That road doesn’t get much traffic. We were the only ones at all the sites for the night so we had the place to ourselves. We tried to go farther down the road to see more campsites but our mini van wouldn’t have gotten across. I will definitely stay here again if I come back.

11 to 12 miles east of Capitol Reef visitor center on highway 24. Look for milage marker 91. Stream crossing easy. Solid gravel base. I saw several sedans in camping area. No cell service (att), tent camping or small <20 ft TT.

We thought we were really going to enjoy this when we first pulled in. The campground was very full. There was an amazing amount of traffic going by our campsite on their way to off road adventures with dirt bikes and 4wd. We did not have a feeling that we had gotten away from it all. It was more like coming to a small rural city. The talcum powder dust stirred up by the passing vehicles covered everything. Maybe things will settle down post COVID. It seems like many campgrounds are maxed out at this point in time.

Not great for bigger rigs. 26’ travel trailer picked up some minor scratches due to tight roads and crazy thorn bushes. Very quiet overnight. No cell signal at all. So much dust flies up when any vehicles go through. Not busy when we were there.
