What a surprise! Memorial Day weekend and there were only three other cars here. Had a great hike to one of the ruins (a guide is necessary). Clean and great views!

Amazing view. Stopped here for one night on a road trip to Colorado. I want to go back and explore. Very few campers, clean toliets. I work remote so checked the cell service and that seemed good as well.

We stayed here one night while traveling from Zion to Monument Valley/Mesa Verde. The road in is very accessible. We rented and drove a 24’ RV in. I wouldn’t recommend bringing anything larger up this way. The sites are FREE and clean and there are restrooms. The views are stunning to boot. We arrived at 730pm on 5/6/18 and there were a few spots remaining. However, many of the spots with the excellent vista views had been snatched up. I would stay here again!

A little bit far from highway but definitely worth to get in. Super view on Glen Canyon. Basic facilities provided like restrooms & preprepared sites.

This is a great spot! We were coming from Vegas and went St George to get there. Google maps had us going on a “short cut” that took us up a dirt road through the reservation. We made it in our rental minivan but if the ground would have been wet it would have been sketchy. If you’re coming this way make sure you just stay on the highway until you hit 160. Also keep in mind, there’s no air freshener in the vault toilet so when you go make sure you have something to cover your nose and mouth. It’s clean in there but super stinky! LOL We’ll be staying here again!

Free, developed campgrounds just behind the Navajo National Monument Visitor Center. You have your choice of two: Sunset or Canyon View. We stayed at Canyon view but Sunset is more developed with 100% paved pathways, water, sink, bathrooms, tables, trash cans, and maybe more (we didn’t thoroughly explore).

At Canyon View, there are tables, grills, trash cans, and clean bathrooms. Spots in both campgrounds are clearly sectioned off. There are group camping sites at Canyon View. Quiet and clean spots with, yes, canyon views. Sunrises are lovely.

Another plus are the hikes in the area. There are a few short hikes surrounding the visitor center where you can view native ancestral villages from afar. There’s also a longer hike called Keet Seel that travels through the canyon to another impressive ancestral village, called, well, Keet Seel. A permit is required to hike through the canyon, which is about 16-17 miles out and back. There you’ll get an up-close and personal tour of the village by a forest ranger and actually get to walk among several artifacts and the village itself. 20 permits are issued per day and you have to obtain it the day before you want to hike and also do an orientation (Option to do an overnight and break up the hike into two days.). Heads up: Hike closed Tuesday and Wednesday and only day hiking allowed Mondays.

An honor and privilege to be allowed to camp, hike and tour for FREE! Places like these are few and far in between. True and rare gems.

I agree with what the rest have said. So I won't repeat. But, I wanted readers to know that if you come in from Keyenta or Tuba City, where you filled up for gas & thought the heat will kill you, don't worry about it so much at the National Monument campgrounds. The elevation is much higher and the temps were lower. Plus, there were lots of Juniper & Pinon trees not seen at the lower elevations. Temps dropped nicely, especially, after sunset. It was 101 in Kayenta but dropped to a very comfy 80s and then 60s at night. The bathrooms are immaculate & plenty of trash cans. I stayed at Canyon View and the trees were plentiful enough to give me shade, but don't expect tall trees, most around 20', important since I travel with my dog. Although signs state limit of 28' there were many spurs that were long enough for bigger rigs. The road to Canyon View was partially dirt, but very nicely maintained. Great Cell service on Verizon. Please, consider making a donation at Visitors' Center, for camping here.

Had an excellent time camping here. There wasn’t a whole lot of places to pick up supplies heading to this location, so make sure to stop and grab some at a gas station heading in if you’re coming from the East.

Overall the campground had several locations to choose from, along with a group area for larger parties. When my friends and I arrived, most of the single locations were taken but the group section was empty so we made camp there. There were also garbage cans and toilets, although it smelled from someone not covering the hole.

Most of the outskirts of camp was fenced in, which made it nice to not have to worry about larger animals roaming in. The spot we slept in had a built in charcoal grill and a picnic table, just make sure to check the fire codes before using.

The location is up high and has plenty of trees, so it cooled off nicely and made it relatively pleasant to camp in. Only issue we had was rain that came through, but even then we were covered by the trees.

The only complaint I had was you could occasionally here people from their other campsite down below.

Overall, great experience and I would love to camp here longer and explore some of the hiking trails they had to offer.

Very basic campground with no hookups but I wouldn’t call it primitive. Roads were well maintained and campsites are all pretty big. Lot of space for cars and tents or campers. I tent camped at spot #6 and was treated to some spectacular sunrises.
This campground is the closest to the trailheads if you’re planning on hiking down to see the ruins.
Facilities are limited to vault toilet and trash cans bur do campers really need more than that? :)

Although the area is beautiful! And there is a lot of camping sites. But a big but it is not big rig friendly. We have a 36’ travel trailer and we had a very hard time getting into a site and then plus turning or rig around to get out of the campground area. We ended up starching up our travel trailer because of all the cedar trees and the tight road and tight turns. I do wish we could have stayed because it is a beautiful area.
Happy camping.
