“the home of legendary Southern sounds”
The Muscle Shoals Sound Studio was formed in Sheffield, Alabama, in 1969 when musicians Barry Beckett (keyboards), Roger Hawkins (drums), Jimmy Johnson (guitar) and David Hood (bass) (called The Swampers) left FAME Studios to create their own studio. The Muscle Shoals Sound Rhythm Section, as they became known, was the first rhythm section to own its own studio and, eventually, its own publishing and production companies. The distinctive accompaniment and arrangements have been heard on a tremendous number of legendary recordings, including those from Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, and the Staple SingersBill Haley and his Comets amongst others. Many artists have recorded hit songs and complete albums at the studio. Home of The Muscle Shoals Sound Listed on The National Register of Historic Places. The legendary studio was the home of artists such as Lynard Skynard, Willie Nelson, Bob Seger, The Rolling Stones, Joan Baez and more.
An incredible stop for rock and roll history lovers. For $5 you can explore the space, peering at walls graffitied by the likes of Mick Jagger, Bob Seeger, and Rod Stewart, and listening to the music created within those walls. There's lots of merchandise and the donations go towards turning the space back into a functioning studio again!
