“Learn about this rugged area”

**On September 7, 2015 the Interpretive Center will close it's daily operations for the seaon. Visitors can still make arranagements to see the center if they are in the area by calling 756-1188. We ask for at least 24 hours notice when preparing the center for visitors in the off season. Admission is $5/person or $12/family. The Interpretive Center will open again daily Memorial Day weekend 2016.** Cradled in the Lemhi River Valley between the Salmon River and the Beaverhead Mountains, the Center lies in the heart of Sacajawea's homeland. In this picturesque setting we provide a variety of opportunities to learn about the Corps of Discovery, the Agai Dika Shoshone, and local natural history. We are supported by many dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to make the center the success that it is. With out their drive and vision the Center would not exist as it does today. Our partners also provide support and their presence can often be found on site: the Bureau of Land Management, the Salmon-Challis National Forest, Idaho Department of Parks & Recreation, Idaho Fish & Game, Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, Idaho Governor's Lewis & Clark Trails Committee, Salmon Valley Stewardship, Lemhi County Historical Society, Lemhi County Humane Society, Salmon Arts Council, Bureau of Reclamation, and the University of Idaho. In our interpretive center you can find the story of Sacajawea before and during her travels with Lewis and Clark. The interpretive center is open May - September and includes a book and gift store. (208)756-1222 (seasonal) Summer programing includes ancestral skills demonstrations and classes, day camps in July, interpretive talks, and Chokecherry Days in mid-August - a celebration of Native American and early West heritage. Our learning center is open year round and can be rented out to groups for anything from public speakers to meetings to educational training programs to wedding receptions. The Meriwether Theater is a 75 seat, re-purposed barn and a perfect venue for intimate talks and concerts. Our community and kid's gardens are supported by local volunteers and provide an important space to learn about growing food and heritage plants. The site includes an amphitheater, dog park, walking trails with interpretive signage, the Salmon Outdoor School, and more! Visit our website for more details: www.sacajaweacenter.org

Their hours change with the season. Check website or call before you go. I called today and was told they are going to regular summer hours starting 29-June-2020

The hours are incorrect! We drove way out of our way to go here and arrive only to find a sign saying by appointment only. Very disappointing. Especially do not bother in winter. Guessing this is more of an outdoor exhibit. Such a bummer. We were so excited to learn about Sacajawea.
